Ive been leaning more towards a ae86 GT-S hatch for the 5k price range car over the 240.
For the price of a stock ls3 swap you could do a well modded LS1 and be making twice the power with a lot less wiring hassle. The STi is my DD, I've just learned what is an enjoyable power level in S-Chassis cars without making them unstreetable. High power levels are fun, but they get expensive in a hurry, not just making that power, but the related maintenance costs. Truth be told, most people never really learn to utilize their vehicles near the limits they're capable of, myself included. So I'd like to take a lot of time getting to know the car lightly modded, and once I'm consistently pushing the limits of the car on the autocross course, then I'll look at upgrading more. As far as drifting goes, it's fun to do on occasion, but I don't care to dedicate a car to a "sport" that regularly involves slamming into walls and barriers while learning.

Ill definitely read up more. I know a NA LSx swap would be plenty power for a fun 240, only reason for the LS3 is for something a little newer/different.

Right now Im building up the Evo to be quite a monster, so that is the reason for looking at another car. The 240 or ae86 would be a nice/pretty cheap/fun DD, but knowing that some work will have to be put into them is a little sketchy. After spending all the money on the Evo I dont want to put thousands and thousands like I did, but at the same time having something nice and fun is still wanted.

How much would you say a LSx swap is?

To do it right? About 10k, if you're doing the work yourself. It can be done for around 6-7k, but, it would be a cobbled together mess.

See, Im not trying to spend that kind of money on another project yet. I might just keep a ka24 in there or the GT-S black top in the ae86 if I went that route.

I think i may just get another Evo and make payments on it. A Evo10 for a DD would be nice, but just having another car payment after I paid this one off wouldnt

Pulled off the old crappy single piston calipers with tiny rotors.

Replaced with 4 piston Z32 units, fresh pads and rotors.

Z32 wheels with much better rubber to clear the brakes.

Time to prep the patched VC

I'm a ****ing surgeon.

Final prep

Engine primer

Oh hi there!

First coat of VHT, she got the second and third coats, and is curing now.

Crappy cell phone pics

This one is a bit better.

The letters will need a light sanding to be perfect after the VHT fully cures, but I'm pretty happy with the results.

That was a fairly productive day. I got the radiator properly mounted, radiator hoses on the car, half of the holes cut for the intercooler piping, one of the Z32/r33 e-brake cables installed, new pads and rotor on one of the z32 rear brakes, 3rd brake light installed, I'm beat. Here's a few of the progress pics.

Getting some work done on the passenger side of the rear sub-frame.

Goodbye rusty old rotor

Axle is out

Removing the remnants of the old e-brake cable which was cut off six inches past the assembly.

New R33 e-brake cable, will route the same way as the s14 cable, is the correct length, but bolts right up to the Z32 drum style ebrake.

Put back together, halfway

Time to drain the pumpkin

Getting ready to take the cover off

Cover is pretty well cleaned up, and has had all of the old gasket removed.

Prepping for paint

Should make it a little easier to spot any leaks on the differential, let's hope there aren't any!

The old gasket has been scraped off of the pumpkin.

The robot face has ears again!

Cover is back on, locked down, sealed up, and just about ready to go back into the rear subframe.
