Driven 2011 STi
Driven 2011 STi
Just wanted to share my driving experience with 2011 STi
Currently have a Evo 8 and 2011 WRX (as daily driver). After having the WRX for few month and happened to be at Subaru dealership for a repair, the sales person handed me a 2011 STi key and ask me to test drive the 2011 STi.
The reason he handed me the key was I told him the WRX was on the soft side (handling) but of course ride is good. WRX is a great daily driver but I wish the handling and steering could be more sporty or responsive.
Well after getting into the STi and I can instantly felt the ride much firmer and can feel anything on the road just like an Evo. The brake has same pedal feel as Evo since it's Brembo. The steering is quick but not as sharp and quick as the Evo (loved the go-kart like steering on the Evo). The transmission has slightly more clunck than the Evo. I like the gearing on the STi since it is 6 speed. The powertrain has broader torque but kinda die out on high RPM. Evo feels quicker due to more peaky power (2.0L vs. 2.5L).
I took the WRX to the track and of course not as fast as the Evo but it doesn't feel as nose heavy as an (stock) Evo. I think the boxer engine and longitude transmission plays a role here. It's a well balanced car.
Well, if I wanted a track/weekend car, I would still go for the Evo X.
I bought the WRX since I got the supplier discount and wanted an AWD daily driver.
Just my thought to share

Since I am supplier to Subaru, I am paying invoice price for the car including any accessories added. But in Subaru forum, some guys are paying below invoice for 2011 WRX so negotiate as hard as yuou can with the dealer. They have special financing now
Yeah I would wait till the dead of winter when they're really hurting for sales (well I live in the Northeast, people useually dont buy cars when its snowing). I bet you can get most cars under invoice.
