Odd, yet lovable old Porsches. They didn't get much love back when they were new did they?

I've been out to a track day with one of these:

Drive said it was scary. Hell, it was monster fast everywhere on the track.

 

They were entry-level Porsches that were powered by VW motors and in turn were not considered "real Porsches" by many of the wealthier, snobbish Porsche faithful.

With age, they've grown a nice following with their low weight, quirky looks, and ease of accepting flat-6 donor motors.

For some reason, I have never been able to find one of these locally. I assume that that means that people are holding onto these cars. That makes me wonder what they are all about.

Love these little gals. Considered picking one up as a project for the lady friend. Your dad's is in nice shape.
