A supra is an expensive daily driver. if it was soley a weekend car it would be great but you dont want to go through 1200 dollars worth of tires every 8-10k miles. plus lots of other continuos maintenence. i had it for two years and it was great. im sure i will own another supra some and hope to use the evo as my daily driver but for now im going to get out of the supra game and into a brand new very mod friendly evo. and in a couple years when the supra market calms down i will buy another one.

While we're on the subject...

What do you guys think the chances that the new Supra due out in 2005 will be better than the mkiv supra?

I mean it is a competitive market now with the evo and STi and on and on. I would guess it to be at least on the same level as these cars and at the same price.

Plus it's a Toyota

Hey "Want to Evo" ever thought of "wanting to 2005 Supra"?

If the SRT4 is faster then the 2005 Supra we'll have to rename this car the Suckra.

No way guys. I bet (ok hope) Toyota is slappig a turbo and fmic on this baby as we speak.

I don't think there will be a new Supra, much as you and I and a whole lot of other people would want one. Closest thing you might see is a variant on the SC430 platform.

The new supra will be a v8, i dont understand why toyota is changing from the almighty 2jz motor, looks ugly as well. I would still buy an mkiv supra over the 2005 supra.

Emissions. Same reason the RB26DETT didn't make it into the 350Z. It's a sh*tty deal b/c I would've gladly paid any gas guzzler tax to have had that engine in my Z stock. Plus the design was starting to get old. Plus maintenance tends to be cheaper & easier on a non-turbo engine. Plus these days, car companies are 'cutting costs' (read: corners) by using as many parts as possible from other models already in production. Hence sharing the VQ35DE and the Toyota 4.3 V8.

I love how everyone tries to win these arguements...
X is better than Y! Who cares?
If you like it, buy it.
I bought my evo so I could drive it in the winter.
I had the opportunity to purchase a supra.
But, I wasn't going to pay 30K for a 7 year old vehicle just because the stock engine is fairly strong. You can thank vin diesel and paul walker for that. If straight line daily drivers are what you want, I don't know why you would shy away from a LS6 or LS1, much better platform than an import for going fast in a straight line.

We do. Everyone here does. That's pretty much why this forum exists. What is the best mod for my evo? or Is the evo the best car for me to buy? or Who is the best tuner? or tires? or wax? or oil?

Now don't hijack our thread.

It would be too bad if the 2005 supra doesn't live up to the previous generation. I would think it has to be better or they should call it a different name. Like the RX-8 is NOT the RX-7 or the 350Z was called a Z car as it at least equalled the previous version in performance.

This post was not started to compare cars. He stated he is switching carss to the evo.
He wanted to know what mods he should go with. He should call one of the evo tuners, I would recommend Buschur. And yes, Methanol/Water injection would work for an Evo. The aquamist kits were designed for 2.0L engines anyhow.

Although if you want to start the exercise in futility in stating that X is better than Y...thats fine.

Although I will have to say...
Why would a modern V8 with a nice powerband be a downfall from the previous generation? The 2JZ isn't the greatest engine ever made, it simply responds to very expensive modifications. People think its phenominal that they have a car with an unusable powerband; that requires C16 to make power. Or be laughed at by the guy with the LS1 who makes 200 Less HP and runs a second faster.

Buy an evo for 28K...have a nice 4Door car that goes in the snow. It has lots of potential upgrades in handling and power areas. Frankly, its a great car! Was it my first choice? No. But I don't have the money for a Z06 in college.

Supras can only run 11s and 10 on slicks. You will be able to run 11s on factory advans in the evo on the street. Supras have no hook up on the street with regular tires. Remember a 500 -800hp supra on street tires will all run the same 1/4 times on the street. I can't wait for the buschur turbo kits, then we will see more 10 sec daily driven evo's.

You are making a mistake in my opinion, but then again everyone has there own tastes. The mkiv supra was one of the most overengineered cars ever, hands down. Why would you want to get rid of a car wich has internals and a transmission which can handle over 800rwhp?

I agree 100%. Supras are very very expensive to mod and insurance is a killa.

sorry to burst your bubble but a supra held the street legal tire record with an 8.36 and there are numerous other supras running 9's on dot tires.

"DOT legal" meaning a few 1/16" deep groves on a drag slick and "street tires" meaning tires I can drive on every day in rain without dying are two very different things
