Selling Supra for Evo

I am in the process of selling my supra and am going to be picking up an Evo. I am going to have between 5-8K left over and am wondering where the best place to start modding. I want to do just power mods to start with. I searched but didnt come up with any concrete answers. thanks

Lots of mods out now for the EVO. Can go with Cams, ECU or flash, Larger Turbo , Turbo Back Exhaust. Basicly pretty much the same mods as you can do on a supra.

Buschur is the answer. Tons of experience wiht the 4G63 enigne. They're performance parts are top notch and they cost less than others out there. I'm with Buschur, as you can see from my sig. Check out their site www.buschurracing.com and check out their Upgrade Path for the Evo. I'm working my way up there.

Keith,

It's an interesting move you're making there..

Great choice, however!

The EVO8 is still pretty new here in the states, which is probably why concrete answers aren't plentiful for this particular car.. although the basic engine technology has been here for about 14 years (1989 the 4g63 had its debut here.. and tuners have been all over it for years!.. ).. which made it a pretty easy for the tuners to come up with quick power mods, as well as bigger upgrades..

A few of the bigger tuners are coming out with their turbo kits over the next few months... and of course HK$$$ already has had a kit out for a long time.. but I suggest you go with a domestic tuner so you can spend your hard earned money on other stuff later on (like suspension mods etc..)

AMS's kit, for example, has done 530whp on stock internals (+hks272s) with incredible spool-up! check it out at www.automotosports.com

BTW, I am also an authorized AMS distributor, and can answer most of your questions about their parts.

How much power are you looking for and what will you be using your EVO for are two very important questions to answer before you start your project.. You might be able to save a lot of money if you it the right way from the beginning!

Also, just so you know.. the stock turbo is good for about 380-400whp (without spray) or high 11's... but that's about max..

Good luck to you and welcome to EVOM.net!

$8000 is more than enough to get you going.

SAFC
Boost Controller
Downpipe/Straight Pipe
Exhaust
Intake
Intercooler/Intake Piping
Camshafts & Cam gears
Fuel Pump & Injectors
Exhaust Manifold

How far do you plan to take your Evo?

I am going from the supra to the evo because of the fact that it will be a brand new car. The car will be daily driven but I would like to see 11's at the strip. I drove the car and was amazed by its handling and braking so i dont think i even need to touch that yet. Maybe in the future i would like to get into road racing but for right now i want to daily drive plus occasional drag use. are any evo owners using wide band o2 sensors to street tune? Also is anyone using an aquamist/methanol kit to deal with octane issues? thanks

Man i ahve an evo but the supra is my dream car. Congrats though. I would go with these mods

Full 3 inch exhaust

Engine management(greddy profec E-01 and emanage/aem stand alone/ haltech or something like that)

NOS chiller kit or intercooler shot to cool air before it hits the motor

HKS cams

Tune the $hI+ out of it

If you still want more power(probably since you had a single turbo supra) then go for a turbo upgrade.

People said the same thing when I sold my NSX but I wanted something new as well and I like the evo better. You may want to check out Vishnu, I did there stage 1+ kit, cams, computer, and turbo back it was about 2800.00 and the car has about 410ish Flywheel HP now and it should turn a 12 or better in the 1/4 mile.

Or go with Road Race Engineering. They do a lot of tuning with Eclipses. and Evos now.

Does AMS have a price or specs on their turbo kit upgrade? Looking for 400+whp on pump gas, cams are going in after the first of the year so turbo kit will be next. I am looking for a kit that will have everything I need to bolt on.

evos are great cars but nothing beats supras in straight line speed. With supra its as easy as going single, with evo its a different story, 11's are pretty hard to reach. If you got dough dont experiment, get hks turbo kit, hks intercooler, ecu, cams. Plan to spend at least $15000 in parts alone to get to 11's,

although some people seem to be running 11's with only a reflash

The Supra rules Period. You will not be disspointed with the Evo trust me. Dont sell Lord Supra. There is nothing like driving a car with 6oowhp. The Evo will leave you at the light but Lord Supra will see King Evo upstairs. As for as mods go its not like the Supras because they have been around for like ten years already. I feel by spring thru summer 04 there will be more virgin offerings for King Evo.
