Evo IX vs. BMW 335
I went from EVO --> BMW. I can honestly say, I was more excited to buy the BMW over my EVO.
BMW preforms very well, handles very well (obviously not as good as the evo), 100000x more comfortable, quiet, looks 10 years more mature, I could go on and on and on...
I do not regret getting the BMW at all.

this is all very interesting, all very good points as well! I just wanna know who buys a EVO for comfort anyway? Dollar for Dollar as well? it’s like night and day. So there really isn't a comparison between the two? Maybe an Audi and a BMW, but most definitely not a EVO. As far as modding, well there was an article in Car&Driver and WOW you can dump a serious wad of cashola into the bimmer and frankly what a disappointment! But it’s a status thing, that’s all it is. So I’ll take my rough *** riding EVO and pull on every 335 out there(wouldn’t even be close) and then go home and sit my butt in my leather recliner in front of my 9.2 Home theater system for some serious comfort. So I have both of both worlds LOL
i had an evo ix with ~380whp and now own a 135i...the 135i is definitely quicker stock vs. stock and modability some people need to do their homework. JB4 on a stock N54 motor(135 or 335) is averaging anywhere from 340-360whp without ANY engine mods. It cost me $479 for it which is basically what a tuner costs to tune an evo. Yes the parts are expensive but its not that bad...intake exhaust FMIC and dowpipes your looking right around 400whp which is great IMO. Yes the fuel pump and injector issues suck but they replace them under warranty no questions asked. Interior is so much better than the evo will ever be...i can see where the guy said the 335 gives u a feeling you are detached from the car but its still an amazing car...the 135i has that nimble steering and you really feel like you're driving the car.
As mentioned before these cars while attracting similar drivers are not really in the same category.
The 135 is luxury sport - up level.
The Evo Ix - sport compact
However I am not finding the data to support the claims of performance dominance by the 135i. If you take the 1 series M in this months c/d. It ran 13.0 on a 0-60 of 4.5's. This was easily where most IX's were testing in 2006. And this is the M: Which has a higher performance than the non M's.
I think its a drivers race 1M versus IX versus 135 as we are talking about .10's and not seconds. I think the X SE versus the regular 135 might be a lot closer. The 1 M test was 50K. A X SE is 31K. A X SE is 0-60 in 4.5 and 1/4 in 13.0. With active handling on the X, the 2 cars out of the box would be at each others throats. But that price differential is just too high.
Finding stock evo IX's is going to be become ever more challenging. With your run of the mill IX going for 18-24K. There really isnt a way that the 135 could win a race at equal invest. IE 40K for the 135 40K in the IX. In past years c/d will always choose the car that delivers average class performance that cost less. IE the Corvette always beats the porsche even tho the performance is generally higher on the porche. The vette is a bargain. This comparison would go the same way.

I had the 335 IX for about a week. Car had some mods, flash, k&N big intake, pipes and blow off. Car was very responsive and the handling was off the hook but it feel's like a girls car so smooth.
