I'm no expert but from what I gather from talking to owners of both cars and forums etc, it seems the STI has a weaker tranny but a stronger clutch than the EVO. I'll take a weaker clutch any day! Just my two pennies.

Both transmissions have a lot of history, the STI's 6 Speed was co-developed with Porsche while the EVO's 5 Speed is built up pretty nicely as well. Clutch wise I would call it a wash, I have 8800 miles on my stock clutch and it feels as good as the day I bought it, no transmission probs either.

Compared to the WRX tranny, the STi tranny is incredibly strong. It has also taken the abuse I give it, so that alone should tell that it's quite strong.

The STi tranny is very strong and also quite heavy. It definitely has the edge over the Evo's tranny...

I believe some of the Japan Tuners have run over 500hp through the tranny on a regular basis with no problems. It is pretty strong. The first things the STis have broken at the track are rear axles.
