Plenty of good reliable cars in that price range. Acura MDX, Honda Pilot, Honda Element, Lexus RX300, etc.

these are some good options, but my wife is very picky and ill run them by her and see what she says. i think the rx300 and mdx is a bit too low on the mpg. but the hondas are pretty decent.

I have a 2003 honda pilot with 4wd, leather and dvd package but it doesn't get good mileage. you can find a used one for that price. try the 2004/2005 since it comes with heated seats and sunroof. or better value with mitsubishi montero or endeavor.

I just searched my local craigslist and found examples of all below 10K except the Nissan Cube, which was 12k.

Also you can get basically brand new lightly used Kia Souls for really close to 10k if not under.

Early model Ford Fusions can be had for under $10k without a massive amount of miles on them (around 80,000). That's about the best and most sensible mid-sized sedan you can buy right now.

I would get an older Camry or Accord. Very reliable, comfortable, and good MPGs.
