The M3 is nice just can not make it that fast. Wife want's one when she's done with med school.
M3 is not a car you buy so you can mod it.. you buy a luxury GT fast sports coupe that's track ready. There are plenty of other choices for a track car that is cheap to mod.. Z06 for one that is insanely sweet off the bat and modable.

M3s, 911s, NSXs are sweet cars for other purposes. Evos are cheaper AWD cars for modding, and for guiltless fun.

When you compare different cars for a purpose, some will look bad, while others look great. Just like when someone says Evo's interior sucks, and sucks for highway drives (compared to other cars) as a comment, is not really a fair assessment.

Yep and I bought the evo for a beater / track car, when I hit a wall a little in the NSX it was 12,500 in the evo it would of been about 3-4k Right now it's my 2nd car and I drive it everyday but once I mod it too much it will be a track only car. Also the Z06 / 996TT / Viper are all about the same speed, I watched a 996TT and Z06 race and it was dead even.

yep yep.. that's the plan with my Evo as well.. M3 can stay nice and sweet while Evo will get mucho play and be a "beater" on the track and in the snow.. hehe.

My decision was made between only two cars. The Evo and an Sti. I had a pretty modded Wrx and wanted something new. I just took the Evo to a road course on Tuesday and I'm now convinced I made the right choice. I love my Evo. Just need a bit more power up top.

First I considered the WRX and second the S2000, but after it was confirmed that the Evo would be coming, I waited the two years and didn't even consider anything else.

Honestly there was nothing else I was interested in. I had to have a 4G63 Powered vehicle again. Nothing else, short of the EVO will ever find its way in my garage.

4G63's own me.

Was thinking about a used E36 M3, but it would take a lot of money and work to make it track-ready; and you'll never get that time or money back if you have to resell the car. Considered the RX-8 but it's a little too wimpy. E46 M3? boat. Mustang/Cobra? Worst suspension available.

That's definitely true. I looked for a nice E36 M3, but they're not really worth the money these days. Most run in the low to mid $20K range, but the 3.2L models are still in the mid to high $20K range.

I finally found a gorgeous and flawless 99 E36 M3 in Estoril Blue with white leather (my favorite combo) and only 25K miles on the clock. It was a BMW CPO vehicle. They were asking $27,000!!! Plus, you'd still need to spend a few grand on suspension upgrades to get it ready for track duty. In the end, the 5-year old M3 would end up costing as much as a brand new Evo 8 (I bought mine for only $28,500).

Yeah if the E36 M3 had stiffer suspension & better brakes from the factory I would consider it, but at least it's not as porky as the E46. An E36 with brakes & suspension would run about the same as a new EVO, plus it'd cost another fortune if you want more HP, which is warranted with how much HP some of the cars out there are coming with now. 240 or even 270 makes it hard to get past the slow people on the straights.

I am currently debating between....
Evo
03-04 Cobra
STI
or a C5 vette[most likely z06]

I sold my low 12second 01 WS6 a few months ago do to the fact that it wasnt the most practical car for everyday especially with the nasty winters we have been having. This is why I am currently looking at the Evo or STI.
