What cars did you consider
Well for the last year I have test drove all that were choices of mine, them being the:
SVT Cobra
350Z
G35 Coupe
M3 BMW
RX8
And one I couldn't seem to test drive was a Nissan Skyline. which was my 1st choice until hearing a high import price which all totaled for a V-spec. $90k.
One of the local shop owners have one(Skyline) and I like his alot.
The Evo beat them all out due to it being all-wheel drive, tuner friendly, and having a strong powerplant.
Plus my goal was to have an 11 sec. $treetcar that I could drive daily if I liked. And be different from the norm.
I should be picking it/Evo. up the 1st week of Jan. 04 for $29,500
The Evo. is a sweet car indeed. I can't wait to pick it up.

Used 993 C4 or C4S, Boxster, M3, 328CI, Audi A4 and S4, VW R32, STI and regular WRX, Dodge Dakota 4x4 (huh?), 350Z.
narrowed down because I really only wanted AWD. Still kinda would want a C4, but for the high $$ would rather have a new car for less than a used car for more. Plus, other factor was that I really wanted 4 doors and a back seat (got rid of my lastr car because got sick of 2 doors) . So, that narrowed it further... down to WRX, STI, and the 4x4 Dodge.... uh, so the Evo won out.

I only ever considered getting a used WRX when it seemed that I couldn't afford an Evo. But luckily, I got a raise and started getting commission, so that went out the window.
Other than that, I used to want a Bullitt Mustang or SSR. The SSR is a HUGE TERD, had so much potential, but GM screwed the pooch on that one. I think I was hooked on the Mustang for novelty reasons only. Plus insurance would have be stupid high.
But I cannot say that I ever SERIOUSLY considered another car when the time came to buy the Evo.

WRX (used 02 - '03) then mod up... but my friend is already doing that... didn't wanna buy the same color... same car... probably the same damn mods so I went with the same color (blue), different car...
First choice... Nissan Skyline GT-R 34 ...

Was waiting on the RX8 X-men edition (Yeah I'm a comic book collector... so sue me!) but the damn thing wouldn't come out. Then I test drove the Evo and walked out with it the same day.
Never looked back although I wish I could afford 2 cars as I like the looks of the RX8 better.

Reading Chris post actually reminded me that I wanted an S2K too and R32 which still isn't out so I also eliminated it. S2K I still want as a 3rd car

Had an S2000, wanted an M3 but didn't want to pay stupid markup (and become a walking ********), thought about the R32 VW and the G35 Coupe. R32 still isn't out, bought the Evo - love it. I will keep it forever. When the new Skyline comes out, it will be between that and a used ('04) Porsche GT3 (in 2007). Gotta love the Evo.
I only considered 4-door turbos with more HP and better handling than my RX-7. Since I bought my Evo before the STi came out, it was basically a decision between the Evo and... well it was either the Evo or nothing. 
Seriously, as soon as I heard that the Evo was coming here to the USA, there was really no question that I would buy one...

well first I wanted to keep my turbo bug buy a civic si and have both
then it was a GTI 20th anniversary and keep the bug too
then the srt4 and also keep my bug
but then I saw the sti and the evo last.
the rest is history
