Thumbs up 2011 Cayenne Hybrid

After 4 long months of waiting, my Cayenne Hybrid arrived. Custom paint was delayed as it comes from... Japan

So far, a little weird driving (stop/start technology, switch between gas and electric, and a quirky 8speed auto), though amazing looking...

Gotta hate the Porsche MO though. nothing is standard - every single damn thing is optional - heated seats, in dash CD, power seats...
base Hybrid msrp is 64k. mine was $92k, and i didnt even get half the available options

the off the line acceleration is ok, though feels "laggy". not sure why, cause the electric engine's torque is instant, and the supercharged V6 also shouldn't have lag... so not sure. maybe needs breaking in.

but, so far, 18-19mpg in daily NYC traffic. not too bad. I used to get 9mpg, in the Range...
Havent cruised on the hwy yet, so dont know hwy mpg.

I get about the same in my escalade hybrid, 18-19 city but have reached 25.7 mpg average in the flats. otherwise 22mpg is the norm. debating whether to wait for the 2012 ml350 hybrid or that. but that looks awesome. what color is that?

i should be getting better since it weighs less than your escalade, and has an 8speed. i guess its too early, only 400miles on the car.

the 2012 ML will be unnecessarily (well, necessarily ) overpriced when it comes out. wait till spring of 2012, they'll be able to take more $ off the price, and also the banks will likely have promotional finance/lease rates

Congrats on the car. That's one nice ride.

I just looked it up and saw these hybrids are actually significantly faster then the base models. Didn't know that.

How is the 8 speed working out? I have yet to see a good review of a transmission over 6 speeds.

so far, my impression is that it shifts up too quickly and doesnt downshift fast enough in normal mode. but its much better in sport mode (though in sport mode, the electric motors dont engage right away, so i dont have that extra power till a bit higher in the rpm).

on paper, yes, its as fast as the V8, but so far, it feels a bit laggy under full throttle.

i think while the ecu is getting used to my driving pattern, its all going to feel a bit quirky. we'll see as time goes on

Good to see this in a Hybrid model, but I'm still overly fond of the Turbo Cayenne. I also find it a little odd how Porsche changed the way the door pillars look, it's so reminiscent of an Infiniti or even a Mazda CX series. The paint job looks very sharp on the new body style, gotta admit that much.

we leased this cayenne. and as much as we wanted the turbo, for the price difference between the turbo and the hybrid, we leased a whole other car - a brand new MB E350 4matic!

I am not surprised!! I've spec'd them out time and time again on the Porsche website and the price is just ludicrous IMO for an SUV.

the biggest problem with Cayennes is residual value. well, the lack thereof.

for ex, on a 24 month lease, the Cayennes residual is 59%, while the E350 I got is 71%.

It seems that it just can't justify the total cost of ownership of one, still my top pick for an SUV. I see used ones pop up all the time, basic packages, but still in good shape for fleet vehicles. I don't believe I could afford the basics like brakes or tires though.
