Subaru BRZ?
Subaru BRZ?
With the new subaru/toyota/scion model on the top of alot of enthusiast lists, the rwd boxer 4 with direct injection is quite a looker, I must admit. They are estimating between 200-230 hp naturally aspirated and making it well under 30k i believe (i have heard closer to 20k and up to 28k). Granted there is no awd being spoken of, and really no turbo charged talk either. Although i dont think it is a direct competitor to an evo or sti... i personally think this is THE best looking new model car for the money if it stays in the mid to lower 20s. They say it will be very tuner friendly and even if it doesnt come with a factory turbo, i honestly think if it is a success that the aftermarket will flood with different options. despite being a firm believer that awd and performance go hand in hand... i might be able to see a bright side to having rwd with ths chassis and the vehicles weight distribution and handling/acceleration potentials.
Long story short, i know it wont be out for a little bit (i think they said spring) but is anyone planning on checking it out and thinking that it is evo-trading worthy? If you havent heard or seen a picture yet or have been under a rock for every auto show this year, check it out.

from what i keep seeing and reading about both the Scion and Subaru version is that when a turbocharged version comes out it will be under Subaru and with a STI badge added to it. the reason i say this is because i read in an article that "STI" was/is considering moving platforms. they are looking to move onto something else and leave the impreza platform alone.
now putting 2 and 2 together it seems like STI is eyeing the BRZ platform and i can really see them going for it. if and when it happens that car will be a little monster!

I thought they were going to throw a wrx turbo engine in there? I def dont see this being a "upgrade" from an evo especially if its going to be n/a with only 230 ponies. When you consider the evos brutal performance/tuning capabilities, in no way is that a upgrade. Is a wrx a upgrade from an evo? I at least dont think so.
i searched for a thread and didnt see it. that thread was just general information and opinions. the difference with this thread is there has been more info released since then and I was asking if anyone was thinking that the new brz is evo trade worthy. not to mention this thread has already grown faster than the other one and not everyone has seen/heard of the brz yet. How is it old news? it hasnt even come out yet... all im saying is that this platform could be a lot bigger than we think. Sharp styling, responsive engine and a warrantee that wont void over a CAI for under 25k? sounds like pretty big deal to me. how it will stack up next to an evo or wrx we will have to wait to find out but with a few modest enhancements and a possible sti with more out of the box performance i think that the brz is at least eligible to share the same garage as an evo as a 2nd car or dd.
i think it's too expensive for what it is.. which is a si/gti/ms3/genesis coupe 2.0T competitor
considering toyo/subaru shared development and toyota is using this platform for the next gen is, they could have done better with the pricing.. i was expecting starting to be like 22, 23

What? The Evolution is a world class machine. World class. I can see how someone with a beat to sh/t, modded to crap multi-owner Evo would want to trade it in, not unlike a similar scenario with any other car. But, a perfectly maintained Evolution, are you frucking nuts?

Agreed with FJF.. You're thinking about trading a performance proven car over something that doesn't even exist yet. You should wait and see what the hype is all about. And from the sounds of it, the BRZ will be in a different class than the Evo and STi. From the specs it sounds like a roadster (minus convertible).
