Turbo Golf base model

VW plans to make the entry level engine a turbo 1.8L.

VW to replace five cylinder base engine with turbo four.

To my recollection this is the first time in North American auto history that a car company is making the base engine in a standard car model to be a turbo. This might actually be a nice shot in the arm for the import tuning business.

VW often dissapoints me and this is coming from a VW owner(yours truly) that just sold two MKV VW cars(a 2007 GLI purchased new and a 07 GTI ).

Why Am I talking smack again? well, rewind 14 years and VW was already running the 1.8l turbo with very similar output(150hp), 12 years ago to be exact VW was indeed making more power with their 1.8l turbo(180 hp to be exact).

If we talk about Audi then the more right I am, Audi was already rolling with the same 1.8l turbo but making 225hp just by adding twin intercoolers and a slightly bigger turbo.

Botton line this is how I explain things: We take one step forward and two steps backwards... now try to prove me wrong!!!

On another note, I saw this coming. The brasilian made 5 cylinder Volkswagen engine has always being noisy and it had the underachiever stamp all over the windshield.

If you see any comparo you will realize that VW brings nothing to the table with the 2.5liter engine. Let alone the 2.0 liter turbo has been wiped out by the competition.

2.o liter turbo and still making 200-208hp? that is from the late 80s no a car sold in 2012. My .2c

I have always said this:VW is a disappointment for seasoned car enthusiast, especially those who have been around with 4G63 with too long
Besides,the culture of VW is
Hellaflush
Non functional parts
Not competitive in any kind of motorsport

What really annoys me about the idea of that 1.8L 158HP engine is that it has direct injection, that is far more expensive than port fuel injection, and it is supposed to gain power that way!

Just like the earlier 1.8T 150HP was lame for having a 5 Valve cylinder head and not making good HP/L.

Years ago I had a 2002 Jetta 1.8T 180HP and I loved it. However, I drove too fast and crashed it in 2003.
