I saw this on car buzz earlier. Agreed that an EVO would give you less of a chance of survival but I reckon that it's all circumstantial. I've been in several accidents at over 100kmh and walked away without a single mark on me, not one. However I had a friend who was killed in a 50kmh accident. Of course speed and the vehicle's safety play a big part, but luck is also a big player.
I agree, the Germans may be expensive but they engineer some safe cars!
Recently saw the aftermath of an Audi A5 rear end a parked Big Rig at 85mph, driver opened the door and got out under his own power, not unscathed but better than dead.... not even the Panorama sunroof was broken.....

Lol funny indeed but he popped the hood because of a fire. The white stuff is from the extinguisher...

but on a serious note, its a bit silly to over-generalize that a Lancer/Evo wouldnt protect its occupants in the same manner as a bmw 5 series. perhaps if you sample 1000 different accidents, the outcome would yield results from which you can draw generalizations...
however, in a single crash, no matter the circumstances, its anything goes. "luck" is whats its about.
i've seen people walk away from 100mph crashes in civics, while i also saw a young guy die in a 40mph crash in a 7 series, near my house last summer...

well that too

But our Evo is very basic when it comes to safety...end of story their..
From what I heard on Jalopnik, the 60 year old driver had a 20 year old female friend in the car. Also, his sons were following close behind in an M3 and M6.
Plus the car did slide a lot instead of hitting like, a tree at 180+.
