Test Drove: 2012 CTS-V Sedan A6

First off, a new one is a little too baller for me. However I've seen some 2011's for fair prices that make them pretty appealing. First impressions of the car before driving were good. Car of course looked great from the outside, but the interior looked great. Leather wrapped dash, contrasting trim, and awesome Recaro's. It test drove a sedan and the trunk was MASSIVE for the size car. I honestly wished it was smaller to free up rear leg room. The car was an automatc, which I'm open to. I used to have a manual C6 Corvette before the A6 was offered, however I'm pleased to say the transmission performed well. Unless you're one of those people who like paddles, in that case its a complete fail as it's still an automatic and isn't fast enough to get me excited from the time you press the button. Yet when driving in full auto, or in sport mode the transmission shifted in a satisfying manner.

The interior was quiet, car felt very rigid, but the exhaust note was a little loud from the factory. I would have figured with it being a Caddy it would have been as quiet as a base model corvette. At initial start up it reminds me of a S63... where the engine demands your attention.

Brakes- Good feel, not like your typical GM products I'm pleased to say.
Engine- Tq monster, however not as commanding as one may thing when toting around nearly 4700lbs during the test drive. Still fast, but a few mods would help.
Transmission (only tested A6)- was satisfactory, quick... but the first couple of gears are a little tall, perhaps to help tires retain their rubber.
Handling - Only hit a few cloverleafs moderately hard and it was impressive for a 4300lb car. Felt predictable and provided a lot of traction, the chassis felt solid allowing the suspension to do its work.
Interior - Great all in all. I have long legs though... and the interior reminded me of a tight BMW 3 series with a huge center console. So I had to have the seat pretty far back to not stuff my right knee against the console. I wish the console was thinner. So when happens when i slip in the back with the front seat positioned appropriately? Doors first off are a little small, reminded me of getting in and out of the back of a Honda Fit. I have to say this was mildly dissappointing, I was expecting it to be easier to get in and out. Keep in mind I'm 6'1 and 185lbs(long legs), so I'm not big by any means. Once I was seated in the rear it felt ok... but it was honestly tight enough it would make me consider geting a coupe even though they are hideous in the rear. I was really wanting a wagon.... but I rear seat room was sub-par. I'm more comfy in a double cab Tacoma anyday.

Sometimes when I test drive a car I fall in love and sometimes I just shrug my shoulders. I shrugged them as I walked off the lot... mainly due to the price. I think it is a tremendous value for a new car don't get me wrong. But when you can hunt one down one or two years old and save 20k, I would never consider a new one at MSRP.
Car of my future.... 35/65. Not soon though. Unless it's a smokin deal!

Sounds like the upcoming ATS-V will be more up your alley.
