The 2014 Mercedes A-CLASS - Specs!
I'm sure if you actually went on a Mercedes forum, you would find the odd AMG car at 100,000 miles. It's a different kind of car though, I really doubt the people who buy AMGs put on huge mileage and if they do, they likely have a second car for that.
A lot of the AMG cars are in a completely different league than the Evo. Whether you believe an AMG handles as well as an Evo is irrelevant as that's a matter of numbers. None of this means the Evo is a bad car but come on, we're talking about cars that cost 2-10 times what an Evo costs.

Some real numbers, rather than just speculation and "opinion". All of these numbers are from Road & Track.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution SE
Price: $36550
Power: 291
Weight: 3625
0-60: 4.5
1/4 mile: 13.2 at 104.3 MPH
Braking (60-0): 119 ft
Skidpad (G): 0.97
Slalom: 70.2 MPH
Mercedes C63 AMG
Price: $63930
Power: 451
Weight: 3920
0-60: 4.1
1/4 mile: 12.5 at 114.4 MPH
Braking (60-0): 113 ft
Skidpad (G): 0.93
Slalom: 69.3 MPH
The Mercedes here is faster, and brakes better but is beat out slightly in the skidpad and the slalom. How that would translate to street handling isn't completely clear though. The Evo is a phenomenal car but it's not the only phenomenal car out there.

Amby I'd attribute the handling edge due to the weight difference.
If they can produce that car, or one similar to it that will come to the states, for under 50k, I'd give it a second thought.
I'm not a fan of hatches at all, but that car is HOT. If I was very rich and could afford multiple cars in its price range and higher, I would definitely buy one if it was brought to the US.
Kinda like the diesel/electric powertrain. High end millitary and industrial applications have gone this way. German subs (not allowed nukes), locomotives etc.
Massive torque without ****ting transmission parts. What is the issue
I guess I would prefer a nuclear powered Evo but that might be a ways off...

I would think that the technology and engineering going into this car will simply pounce the next-gen Evo, which is what my point was. It will probably start somewhere in the [high] $40's to boot, which is not very much more than what an MR Touring currently costs, and what I imagine a well-equipped EVO XI will cost.
Bottom line, the Merc is where I'll want to be if I'm in the market for an Evo in the next few years, and it will be more "evo" than the Evo on top of costing roughly the same and performing better. Let's not mention aesthetics.
But maybe I'm assuming too much.
This is a non issue for US buyers. It's not coming to the states so who cares.....the RS3 has been around a few years and that also didn't make it here. For some reason car companies don't bring their performance models here, one reason is cost.
Same as the euro Focus (though fwd), the Evo FQs, JDM Spec STIs and a whole list of other cool cars that don't make it here. While good-to-know, this isn't a factor or issue in relation to the new evo Xl as this type of car has been around for some time now, just not in the US.
This hatch is badass and I would buy it in a heartbeat over the Evo, it probably go for close to $15K more than an MR touring, but for my usage.....not tracking, racing or auto crossing, etc....it fits the bill.
In Mitsu defense I can say that Mercedes has plenty of room to play around with models like this, that while for enthusiasts is awesome, the average car buyer will sleep the whole production run of this car without ever loosing sleep. Mitsu needs to make every product count in large numbers, Mercedes doesn't, they can make 1000 and sell 300 and not care. Look at the C63 AMG Station Wagon, doesn't even exist in their brochures but is available for special order.
Bottom line Mitsu is treading water Mercedes is doing back strokes.

Looks like the price is estimated at $50k
Also of note, IMO is that its rated 28MPG highway. Damn nice for an AWD 350HP platform.

Looks like its that much closer and coming along really well. If brought to the U.S., I'm guessing it could start at right under $40k and be the least expensive AMG out, but still with a hand-built engine and fantastic specs for those looking for AWD turbo platform.

Review is out and of course, Mercedes proves Mitsubishi stopped trying years ago.
I don't understand how this 2.0L borg warner turbo Merc can get 40 MPG while making 355HP. Just amazing.
37k GBP, assuming the way other cars are priced, would probably mean around $40k USD which is a fantastic price as well. The same mitsu charges for X MR Touring which is a dated POS at this point.
