The 2014 Mercedes A-CLASS - Specs!

Ran into this today. So how about this for the Evo XI:

- 2.0 liter 4 cylinder, staying in the rally spirit
- 350HP, 295 lb/ft
- 6300RPM redline with a BorgWarner turbo, leaving room for more power
- AWD with a rear bias
- 3300 lbs

AWESOME, isn't it?!

Well too ****ing bad. Its the new Mercedes A-CLASS.

Why is Mitsubishi failing so hard at engineering the Evo since the IX? Why is Mercedes, who doesn't give a **** about rallying, building an awesome "Evo"?

- is AMG
- is hand built
- is gonna cost more than what MR FQ-400 costed in UK

btw: “It will be the most powerful engine in its class,” said AMG chief Ola Källenius
sounds funny when Mitsubishi had these numbers in 2005:
Type:Inline-4, TurbochargedDisplacement cu in (cc):122 (1997)Power bhp (kW) at RPM:405(302) / 6800Torque lb-ft (Nm) at RPM:355(481) / 5000
While having same weight as A classe as a four door sedane.
or X version in 2008
403bhp at 6,500 rpm
387lb/ft of torque at 3,500 rpm
Tho much more fat in curb weight terms.

Its a bad thing Mitsubshi doesn't have small world series of higher performance trims worldwide, not just in Britain, surely there will be buyers for those products in US, Russia, China, UAE and that would somewhat bolster evo sales. Mitsubishi has a lot more tricks in its own sleeve that would keep this Mercedes, BMW and Audi new competitors trailing for another 1 or 2 decades, but why doesn't the Mitsu make or use them, thats a question we will never be answered or will never understand.

My hope is that 2014 evo happens to be petrol-turbo as it was for last 10 gens then that car would probably be better than 328xi, 1/335i, rs3/4/5, sti, this A Classe AMG which predecess from Mitsu/DCAG joint venture car.

This is worth talking about. An interesting car, but it's bound to cost a bit. Per the article:

This powertrain could come to the U.S., but it won’t be in the form of the A45 AMG five-door hatch. Much more likely is an AMG-ified CLA four-door coupe based on A-class architecture or even an A-class–based crossover. Photos and more information of the A45 AMG should be available within the next week.
This is what the 4-door coupe might look like:

I would take a wild guess and say that the hatch, if it comes to the US in exactly that form, wouldn't cost too much more than what a Evo X MR Touring costs right now.

Sounds awesome, sadly no hatch love in the US.

Next EVO is hybrid diesel so that's DOA to EVO fans?

Agreed. It's very sexy. FWIW, I'm betting on ~$55K with a few options. Just read, today, in the newest issue of Automobile that Audi will be importing its RS models into the US. The RS3 with a turbo 5-cylinder sounds interesting, too. It might come in at ~$45K (my guess). Personally, I love the TT-RS, but simply could not buy one feeling like its reliability will frustrate me for years to come. Same goes for virtually anything coming from German sedan manufacturers today.

AMG trims do not come under 6 number price tags anywhere.

Because Rally Car.

Also maybe Mitsubishi is getting tired of Evo owners crying like a little girl with a skinned knee every time they produce something the old school fan boys don't like.

Agreed. The TT-RS is definitely sexy. But, as you said, reliability becomes a factor down the road for any Audi product. Audi overall has some of the best looking cars out there, but their value drops faster than Facebook stock and repairs are not only costly, but frequent. Basically, Audis are overglorified VW's and we all know the quality problems VW has had in the last decade.

The hatch looks really good IMO and it also looks like it will be making some good numbers. Would love for them to make it here to the US.

granted the last two are pretty much $100K, but you can still get a brand new AMG-series MB for well under a 6-figure price tag. these prices are as per EDMUNDS.

Also notice that the C class is in the high $50's. I would expect an A class with a 4 cylinder to be somewhere below that.

What I find fascinating is that Mercedes is going forced induction with a 4 cylinder gasoline engine for the future while Mitsubishi seems to feel that it has no future. I wish somehow that the hybrid diesel would be tried out on something like the Ralliart while an updated 4B11T be used with the next Evo. Sigh...

The thing is going to be double or triple the price of an Evo. Mitsubishi engineers long lasting cars. How many AMG cars do you see hitting 100k miles? Look at the IX section and you'll see plenty of Evos hitting that with minimal problems. AMGs cost an Evo just to maintain for 50k miles.

Also despite being double or triple the price, there is no AMG on the market which handles as well as the Evo IMO. They are generally tire shredding muscle cars along the same lines as a GT500.
