Porsche has released this video, showing the Carrera S lapping the Nurburgring in 7min37sec.



Porsche has confirmed that the new 911 Carrera S has lapped the Nurburgring in 7min 37.9secs, which places it firmly within supercar territory – out-lapping the 7m38s time set by the 911 Turbo in 2008.

The car was piloted by racing driver Timo Kluck, and the 394bhp 991 Carrera S was fitted with a PDK gearbox.

It’s not far behind the pace of the other more track-focussed 911s, including the GT3 RS’s time of 7m33s, which bodes well for the Turbo and GT3 versions of the 991 when they come along.

 

i wonder what the 991S would do if you put some r comp tires on it like the GT3RS has... even out the tires and the 991 might even be faster... 5 seconds isn't that much on a 13 mile long course

 

Impressive time for any car, let alone one with "only" ~400 hp.

But what I thought was dumb was how when it was first announced, they were talking about how it outpaced certain cars, except the press release wasn't using the best lap times for the cars that they said the 911 Carrera S beat.

Still, I'd love to own one, but I can't get over the tail lights. I think I'd be plenty satisfied with the 2013 Boxter S.
