Great choice on the GTI. I have one as a daily driver and hands down one of the best all around cars available today. Great handling, decent power, decent seats, nice looks (in and out) and amazing gas mileage. I can only imaging how great the APR tune is.. I opted to stay away from tuning this car. I have the Evo for when I need a power kick.

I have a CPO'd 2010. I opted for the DSG trans (because race car, of course). Bad choice on my end.. probably on of the worst transmissions ever, but i am told a re-flash should fix the clunks and hard shifts, etc... I'm sure the manual is amazing. The car has been great besides the trans and some electrical gremlins that pop up every once in a while.

GL with the ride. You should visit GTI MKVI forum.. I love to lurk there and read all of the VW fanatics who think that the GTI is a super car I will admit though, that a properly tuned K04 is quick.

There is some serious VW tax with everything you do to this car. Not to mention virtually everyone in the community argues who's "canned" tuned is the best, APR, Giac, etc... Its actually kind of funny. The dyno wars are entertaining as well as who's car with x,y,z, mods makes the most power on the forums.

I was seating on the 2013 GTI less than 2 weeks ago when I picked my 2013 Passat TDi and I must say that the GTI is simply a unique car of its own. The quality of the interior is exquisite. You will have 95% of the people on the forums making comments without actually seen the car and seating in it, I know that you got a heck of a car and is worth every cent. The seat are excellent, the steering wheel is sex and the on board computer and other equiped features are awsome.. wait, the car gets 33 mpg too(DSG)!!

Summarizing, enjoy your sweet a$ car because it is in my opinion the best value for the money on that size car. Yeah you could had got a Mustang V6 with 305 but your GTI with GoAPR or GIac or Unitronic equals the performance of 300hp cars and you and I know it. If you didn't had the GTI I would had suggest the Focus ST also.

I am eyeballing the Gen 7 Golf, they will come with more competitive engine outputs and the R models ir rumored to have over 300hp. Take care!

I was looking at a GTI a year or two back for exactly the reason Carlos mentioned. It IS a great car for the money, the interior, ride quality, relative performance etc is not really matched by anyone. Sure the MS3 is faster, but the interior is garbage. I'd like to ride in the new Focus, but only the upper models really rival the GTI's base model for interior and features.

Plastic can do some seriously cool stuff. However I don't agree with it for parts like a pressurized intake manifold, nor super critical parts like a water pump.

Added a rear swaybar, really enjoying it with that installed and the stability control defeat. I also ordered Bilstein B8s, and have VW Driver Gear (Eibach) springs that drop the car about half an inch. It should be a lot more fun after that.

Hoping for wheels and tires this summer.

Hahha you gave in.

Should have asked me about the DG springs. I have some still in the box that where for my TDI that I never installed... useless for my R.

Congrats on the car... I did something VERY similar; I purchased a GTI as a daily driver so that I wouldn't have to drive my Evo or my Mustang in the horrid, terrible Minnesota winter.

I aslo have looked into getting the APR stage 1 tune for the car, as the acceleration and power is something to be desired... however, the closest tuner shop that deals with "Euro cars" is in a pretty rough neighborhood in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, and, I've had numerous issues with trying to email this tuner shop.

As a commuter and daily driver, I'm more than satisfied with the car. It gets fabulous gas mileage, it's comfortable and easy to operate and drive. I still have my Evo and my Mustang, so I have my sports cars to mod and play with when I so desire.

Great car, enjoy, and keep up the mods!!

Thanks, I'm a big fan of white cars now... you can really see the lines clearly and the black grilles really "pop" on a white car. I'm very fortunate to be able to hold onto both vehicles. It's nice being able to go back and forth when you want that "Wow" factor in the Evo. I am becoming quite the fan of German engineering. Granted as you posted some things they could do better, the Soundaktor for example, I mean come on! I do like the interior, with the higher quality of plastics they use as opposed to US model cars... and the car has many, many idiosyncrasies that make it fun to drive, own and fresh enough to not get bored with it too quickly...

I look forward to more posts on your upgrades, as stated, mine will more than likely stay stock to save money for the Evo modifications... but I do enjoy living vicariously through other GTIs!!

. Your humor is different. I think that you need to go back and do more research, the DSG transmision is a benchmark in the industry, Ferrai runs a patent. The DSG car is about 4 tenth quicker than the manual(look at the best motoring videos). It is the fastest shifting transmission.

I do agree that once in a while it might not engage on the gear that you want but make no mistake that the DSG has been chosen as one of the best transmission. I have had a 07 GLI with DSG and a GTI with DSG. When I raced cars at the local dragstrips I ofetn won because of the fast shifting.

There are two things (downside to the DSG ), there is the famous farting and also the torque limiting from factory(there is a transmission flash to unleash the full torque).

Just a friendly reminder, read more about the DSG transmissions, I am 6 years ahead of the game, I had mine shortly after they were launched.

Hey Seth,

Good looking cars. I go to a weekely car meet (I can send you the link from VWvortex), is about European imports. There is one guy that just purchased the Golf R and the GLI(both 2013), he had to send the entire ECU to GIAC to have it opened and tuned, is not like the generations 5 which you could just have a local vendor download the software via OBDII port.

The results are still there, great torque and HP.

I will let the video do the talking:

Nothing against driving a manual car but you can't say that the DSG is that bad.
