Classic Mini

Anyone else have one? They're a whole lot of fun, especially with RHD. After years of wanting a Mini I finally picked up one just last week.

It's a 1972 Mini 1000. Plans are to fix up the bodywork and rust spots (repaint to original yellow with black accents), seal up the numerous oil leaks, and swap the interior to black leather.

I can't believe how much attention this gets from people. It's instantly recognizable, I swear it gets more looks than a Ferrari. Also it sort of looks like Mr Bean's Mini.

I have seen two minis at my local AFB in Davis Monthan. You can bring 25 year and older cars from the UK without having to go through the hassle of US safety laws.

I have seen many as I spent 26 years of my life in Europe(3 of them stationed at RAF Lakenheath , England). There were 3 motors that I am aware of (850, 100 and 1300), either car is fine to me. They all have that weird internal side mounted facing radiator which makes no sense to me.

My wife works for mini and we go on mini events all the time.

Minis on the dragon, minis on top, etc.

They are a blast. Also if you have Instagram #minimonday.

Of course I have Instagram!

That's just a handful of what I've bought. Important parts are the door shell on the left and the spot lamps up top. Just placed another big order for a Stage One performance kit and some misc. trim that I forgot the first time around.

The side mounted radiator was chosen as a compromise. They didn't know how to make an electric fan reliable enough for that car, so they needed a mechanical fan. The drivetrain was cheaper to build by having an engine and gearbox all in one, but that required a transverse mount. That is why there is a weird sideways fan.
