Evo VIII or Audi B6 S4 Avant -- Pics
I am looking for a new ride and I cannot choose.
I just sold my daytona blue 350Z track. too small. too many problems.
I am looking for something quick. I modded the hell out of my 350Z and returned back to stock before selling. I broke even but i learned that modding a car can be a losing proposition if you are selling it within 5 yrs. The dealership i sold it to still cannot sell the car. Even though it is prestine, i replaced the stock fenders when i made my custom fenders. So potential buyers are scare away since it no longer has the oem VIN# sticker on fender. Glad i wasnt stuck with this problem.
I love the Evo 8 for its over-achieving attitude and wicked handling. Stock turbo cars, mmmmmmmm. And i can get it to smoke about anything for less than 5k.
The new s4 is pimp. Might be slower than the evo8 and the m3, its direct comp, but it is more refined than the evo and handles better than an m3. I was looking at the nogaro blue avant (wagon) because I can then finally transport a dog without messing up the rear seats. I know the s4 is hard to mod; i would probably only go as far as tints, intake and 19s.
I can afford to buy the evo or lease the S4 Avant.
Your thoughts please.

I'd get the Evo as a weekend warrior...or the Audi if it's your only car

Of this trio, the S4 is in a class by itself, scoring the full 10 points in our handling rating, two above the M3 and three above the C32.
If you have kazaa, download "Topgear M3 vs S4" Stig drive both cars around the track and the times were:
Evo8: 1:28.9 "FQ Version=301 hp"
Murcielago: 1:29.0
STI: 1:30.1
Audi S4: 1:30.9
Bmw m3: 1:31.8
I got the STI and Evo8 number off another top gear video, same track and same driver.
Congrats to you evo 8 owners. My heart is leaning towards a weightless white evo8.

I ordered a 2004 S4 sedan in Nogaro blue, but I cancelled it after I talked to some S4 owners and read their boards. I guess the V8 has had some teething problems, with engines dying at 5,000 miles. I know it would be covered by warranty, but imagine if the thing died at 50,001 miles. You know? The other thing, I didn't like the 6-speed at all - very notchy, rubbery. I opted for the 6-speed Tiptronic with the paddle shifters. Then I found out how much the tranny was to replace.... $10,000!!!! For that money, I would be able to score an sequential tranny for the Evo. I am in complete agreement about the S4's quality though. I think it's beautiful - whenever I see one, I wonder if it was right to cancel the order. Of course that all changes when I boost the Evo and hear that turbo go nuts. Put it this way: If you don't hate the Evo's interior, buy the Evo. All the driver interaction will be worth every moment of not having your *** in a leather seat.

And now let's take a look at some real race track results...
Hockenheim:
lap time Manufacturer Type HP Nm Vmax 0-100 km/h 80-120 km/h
1.16,3 BMW M3 (E46) 343 365 250 5 5,2
1.17,2 BMW M3 Cabriolet 343 365 250 5,5 5,8
1.17,5 Audi RS4 (mit Sportpaket) 380 440 250 4,9 4,5
1.18,1 Audi S4 344 410 250 5,4 4,3
No stock S4's were able to outdrive the M3.
Leave the MAG racing for someone else... Top Gear is fun to watch but they are no standard for real life racing.

I don't hate the Evo interior at all. Better seats than my 350z. I planned to install new JL Audio Speakers and Alpine navi. A nice touch would be a black alcantera headliner without sunroof. Tint the windows and add some shiny silver ssr gt7 to weightless white and drop it with cusco zero2. Maybe some jdm tails and i am good to go on the "snob mods"
Then the real fun begins under the hood.
