Met a Porsche Boxster

But the fact is that unlike EVERY OTHER CAR the Porsche Boxster was designed, every single part, to be a sports car, tuned to be what a Porsche is supposed to be. The Z3 has the suspension of the old 3 series...a sedan. The S2000 borrows many parts from the honda parts bin (I am not that well versed in the S2000 to be honest), components that were not designed for a sports car. So you see you do get what you pay for, for me a car designed from the ground up to be a sports car, and has done EVERYTHING right since it's introduction is a real sports car, and you do feel it in the drive. There will always be a faster car out there...I mean even the Enzo is beat by the 8yr old Mclaren F1.

This isn't saying the S2000 is superior to the Boxster; just that the S2000 is every bit the sportscar that the Boxster is, arguably more so, and at a price that is $10,000-30,000 lower (depending on model/options for the Boxster).

For the SCCA, I don't have an answer, different drivers, different skill levels, what I posted is that the S2000 and Boxster are VERY VERY closely matched, the Boxster S with the higher HP and better suspension is a better car than the standard and so it should get better times but I don't know about the SCCA times, how many Boxster Ss vs S2000 are raced and how many of the drivers have more experience either. On top of all of that autocross is MUCH MUCH different from track...on the autocross the Boxster beats out the 911. Being able to reach higher speeds with the 9000 RPM redline in the S2000 will play a significant roll in the autocross, not nearly as much as on the track.
They are very closely matched cars, as they should be since they are direct competitiors. But the facts still remain the Porsche was designed to be a sports car from every nut and bolt put on...The S2000 borrows parts and while it does things very very very well it is not MY cup of tea, as the Porsche isn't yours, but that does not make the Boxster any less of a Porsche than the 911, it doesn't make it a bad car since it has done EVERYTHNIG right. I chose the car that I felt was worth the money, I did drive an S2000, and it was nice but I feel the Porsche is a significantly better driving, looking and feeling car than the S2000. That is my opinion, and is the opinion of many others (including many of the auto rags).

You're right, many of the better drivers have abandoned the Boxster and Boxster S because they're outclassed by the S2000 (B stock) and the Corvette (A stock). Most serious racers want the fastest car they can afford, and in both classes the Boxster is not the fastest car. In all fairness, the Boxster S and S2000 belong in the same class, when they were (2000) it was pretty even. The base Boxster can't hold a candle to the S2000; I don't know why; I suspect the S2000 simply has more aftermarket support in the way of suspensions (one of the few things you can change).
Again, I've never said the Boxster isn't a real sports car (it is) or that I wouldn't want one (only that I wouldn't pay the huge difference between an S2000 and Boxster S). I'm not big on panache or creature comforts, which is why I love the S2000, along with the Evo, Elise, and other purposeful sports cars. Those that are into panache and want the performance to go with it get a Boxster.
Boxster is Porsche's MASTERPIECE. rated ABOVE the Carerra GT
Karl Ludvigsen, the guy who wrote the Definitive 700 page three voulme set on the history of Porsche cars rated the Boxster S "Porsche's Masterpiece" he said this in "excellence" magazine last month.
So you are all full of it when you debate is the Boxster a "real" Porsche.
Case closed! Nuff said!!!
Unless you have more credentials than Herr Ludvigsen, keep your little negative opinions to yourself

man you have to love it when you can get all the people who have nothing better do than scan forums and just jump in on any topic. glad to see the Boxster people are not sleeping around here. Well Max Ernst Karl Lidvigsen might as well be peter pan. who gives a hairy fart about this guy. everyone is entitled to their opinon especially if it has lots of subject part. its a fact that the S2000 is faster , and has won more races than the Boxster. their are alot of people that love the car. great their were alot of people that liked the 928. its doesnt mean the car is the cats meow, look the 928 is gone. why you guys try to come on here and debate about the boxster being a real porsche i dont understand everyone here including my self have said a Porsche is a Porsche. look back in my post . we just dont feel the car is what it should be for 50.000 and coming from Porsche as their latest roadster. the S version helps but it really should have been a 300hp car or at least the weight should have dropped to 2500lb so it would the lightest and nibblest with great acceleration numbers. instead we got a nice car with sporty features and alot of luxury in a roadster. we usually see the Porsche product in the number 1 spot. look at the twin turbo. everyone uses this as the benchmark. the Boxster fell in the middle of the pack not the top dog. if you have real factual data we are leaving out jump in. but as you will see most of us are well versed in the car or past and even present owners. me , I have friends that have one and have driven it. so if you own one then dont come on here waving your ultimate car flag. we would love to hear your point of view and driving impressions not what some other paid writer has to say. let me guess . he did the piece in excellence magazine for free. if you notice most of us are stating are opinion as to why we dont like it and then fact on the objective points.
and I do have more creditials than karl. I drive my car daily and know the good points and the bad. i am also willing to accept the bad. i will try and modifiy then and improve them but i dont hide them as if they were never there. PS i dont get paid to write this.
thank God for America let your Opinions run free, the Max guy must be from USSR.

I have a slightly modified 2002 S4 that can blow the doors off of an Evo in straightline acceleration. But my "poor man's" 2003 Boxster is far more rewarding to drive...and I don't have an S. It is correct in every sense of what driving is about. Not to mention top down on an 80 degree day, which makes the sensation even better. If you think we are wannabe Porsche fans, you need to look at the fact that you are driving a modified $30K Lancer. S4s, Evos, Boxsters, etc all have something to bring to the table. No sense in trying to prove otherwise.......
I dont know about you guys, but I think the base porches look like a frog to me. The body styling and the head lights resemble a frog when I look at it. But the high end porshes dont have the look, b/c they have a ground effect body kits and the rear wing. Overall, I would rather get a C6 or the coming z06. Actually, an R34 would be pimped.

the first decent porsche post as of yet. glad you like it , i had a nice M roadster love the beauty of convertibles especially when they are nice sports cars as well. My convert Vette now replaces the BMW . your right the EVO is a 30,000 modified lancer. had to be, thats the rules in order for it to compete in the WRC. but thats the beauty we get all good race mods in a nice but stiffly sprung 4 door sedan. i didnt have to go out and buy the AWD, the turbo, and extra goodies they use to Rally the car. look the BMW M5 is wonderful but i dont have 75,000 to drop because i want a fast , nice handling sports sedan. sorry Porsche doesnt make one. they have the nice Cheyenne but its to big for me. and as for as sport SUV that is the top dog, fastest and best handling . just what porsche normally does. so as you put it they all bring different things to the table to each persons likes or dislikes.

I have tried to explain this to people who proclaim the Evo (or any other fixed roof car) as the best car for $30k (give or take)... Just something about looking up and seeing the sky that makes a fast car all that much better...
Enjoy the drive, man!

more rewarding to drive? are you so well versed in driving evos that you can say this 100%? it's true that the car is better looking and comes from a more prestigious company... of that i have no argument... but is that what you're referring to as rewarding? the envious looks from others that you attribute to the car?

30k modified lancer? sorry... our cars come like this stock... why don't you look at the lancer and realize we essentially only share similar interiors? not to mention that it's based off the cedia, and the evo was created before this (or should i say, last) generation lancer.
Well, I have seen it first hand, we were at Laguna Seca last month and all the S2K's there were pretty much pulling away from the Porsche at every turn. In no way am I hating on the Porsche, but I dont think it cant keep up with an S2k in the twisties. I was actually considering a Boxster before I bought the EVO.
Just the other day a Boxster wanted to run me, in the EVO...poor guy, he made a quick left turn after he fell a few cars back
One last thing.. I have heard alot of people say the EVO will outhandle a S2K...I dont know if it's just me, but when I corner in our S, it feels like it takes the turns better. Just my personal experience
