Books on performance?

Books on performance?

Posting this to see if any of you guys have come across some books on turbo and N/A motors. Not so much on how they work, but more on the performance side. How different components affect power, when they affect power, and how parts differ from naturally aspirated to turbo applications. I'm a little more knowledgable on v8's and how N/A motors respond to cams, exhausts, port sizing, etc. I'm mainly interested in learning about how these things affect turbo motors.

I'm very big into efficient setups, versus bigger parts and cookie cutter setups. I feel like most people choose parts from word of mouth, or very large peak power numbers. I want to know what is going on my car and how it will affect it.

Hopefully you guys can provide me with some good info, and maybe others can also benefit from it.

I'm not real sure that there is a book that will cover the differences and the effect different parts would mean by going from NA to Turbo.

From my experience word of mouth is the best form of book you can have because most people on forums don't just go by the advertising hype but what they know works or they experiment to get it right.

To give a brief explanation of what adding a turbo to a NA v8 would cause. When NA you need to focus a lot on intake setup and finding a cam that works best all around but usually with more lift and duration on the intake side. The fuel system on a NA engine is also relatively simple with the engine not needing much fuel for the amount of air that is going in.

When a Turbo or Supercharger are added to a NA combo the engine now is deficient on the exhaust and fuel systems. The intake does not need as much lift and duration now since you are forcing the air into the engine, but the extra lift and duration needs to go to the exhaust so that you can get the spent air out. Now that you are forcing more air in you need to put in more fuel in to match so the fuel system needs to be larger.

Hope this helps. Look up builders like Ken Duttweiler and search for videos or articles on the subject, he has been at the turbo longer than most.
