I'd have a hard time choosing between the two. STI still has a proper 3-diff AWD system, but an old engine and the car is as big as a boat.

R has a lame AWD system, but amazing interior (for its class).

Golf R basically has the same AWD system as the RS, except the RS adds rear mechanical torque vectoring.

 

Yep. But from the few videos I've seen and a some things I've heard, that rear torque vectoring does seem to make a difference. I'm mostly just excited to have another player in the small AWD turbo car game.

All of that being said - not getting rid of the IX any time soon.

 

I've heard these new golf R's are really responding well to just a tune. 110 mph traps on a tune only.

 

Subaru really needs to up the game in the engine department of STI as the competitors are way ahead.

 

My brother and I were on the Golf R wagon last year, drooling over it. We were both disappointed with what Subaru did(n't) do with the STI. My brother hasn't ever really been a fan of the Evo, but I've always liked it. The VW dealers around here weren't very helpful with information (may or may not have been their fault), which wasn't helping the Golf R for us. So, I went and checked out my MR ... bought it a couple of weeks after checking it out. My brother wound up with some life-changing events, and got a Fiesta ST (which is a rockin' little pocket-rocket of a car!!).


After reading the MT article, well, I'll stick with my Evo. The more I drive it, the more I love it. It's my daily driver, and I've really got no major complaints (a bit more liveliness right off the line would be nice, but not really necessary).


I just dread the Focus RS coming out ... an Evo possibly beaten by a FOCUS?!? GAH! Is the apocalypse coming???
