I spent Sat/Sun at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Thanks to Mazda for giving us a corral at turn 5 and providing all the food and swag. Thanks to my buddy Ron @ SCCA for getting us on grid for some awesome pics and vid. I"ll just post the videos for anyone curious to see everything from a different point of view. The two Mazda R100s were a highlight, though I went there specifically to see the 787b run. Sadly, parts for the car never made it, so they had to baby it around the course. The 787 and FC made up for it by screaming around the track and sounding like F1 cars!
Speaking of.. the classic F1 cars were AMAZING, along with the Can Am and Trans Am cars.
There's just too much too post about, but I don't wanna bore anyone, so here goes a few highlight pictures and some vids. enjoy:
Oh, and my buddy got to sign the 1,000,000th Miata. That's kinda cool.
I wonder if that is the 1 off LHD Spirit R RX7 they made for one of the Mazda Execs. Talk about rare.
Yes. I'll add a pic of the story board from it.
Cliffnotes: Parts from the Spirit R (even paint) showed up at a dealership in California. They built the car, it is now the only LHD Spirit R in the world. And flawless, I'd like to add.
I would give me whole life away just to drive that 787b or 767b that thing is a diamond.
Literally, the only reason I went was to see the 787b on Sunday. Only after almost buying my ticket for that day, did my friend tell me we had passes for Sat and Sun. So, I went both days and am glad I did.
I was very, very disappointed when I saw the 787b cruising. I asked our Mazda rep what was up and he said a part didn't make it in time, so they had to keep the car down on power and RPM. So CLOSE to what i wanted to see... But i did see the car in person and it was on course, so bucket list item checked for me.
The 787 sounded amazing, though and finished 2nd or 3rd, I believe. It was battling it out with the FC, which isn't too surprising. Both sounded AWESOME.
As for driving the 787b, I would seriously give a non-essential organ to get a few laps in it. No doubt.
