400BHP Golf R

Supposedly the 2020 Golf R will come with 400bhp to compete with the Type R and the RS. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/a-4...ch-crown-back/

edited post to show sarcasm...

idk if how it comes stock, but if it needs to be disabled with some aftermarket tool like the one from 2 gen ago did, it doesn't count.

If you don't know how it comes stock, why are you posting as if you do?

that sarcasm bit... humor... cause they put out previous Golf R's before with undefeatable traction control... they have other cars out now with undefeatable traction control (I forget what it was but james may tested it on the last season of grand tour and said it was better than whatever car jeremy liked)... but mostly sarcasm and humor...

Ha I don't think he is that serious with the comment. Neither should you guys be. It's a Golf, another car in the happy enthusiasts' family:

Unofficial reports say that the engine will be 2.0lt but I think the 2.5lt inline-5 will be the engine of choice here. It will sound great.

It kind of amazes me how little progress has been made in this niche of cars. a 400bhp 2.0 would basically put it in line with an FQ400 that came out what....15 years ago....

There's simply a limit when a manufacturer has reliability and emissions goals to hit.

except that the FQ400 wasn't exactly a regular production Mitsubishi product... it was modified by one shop in England and only sold in England... sold by Ralliart UK, not Mitsubishi UK... basically the equivalent of a Saleen Mustang... When the current Camaro SS was released with 455hp, nobody said; oh yeah, well the Saleen Mustang S351 made 495 hp back in 1998...

I mean yes the 400hp Golf R isn't the standard Golf... but its made by VW, not some niche outfit...

Huh that's good to know. I was under the impression it was a direct Mitsubishi outfit. Probably because of the top gear video

And to be far, the FQ400 wasn't that good.

Come to think of it, it really wasn't The shrunken door mirrors didn't do it for me and it had a ton of turbo lag...only to make as much power as a stock IX turbo on E85. I've never driven one so I can only talk it down a little bit.
