Well, then, I'd think that the recent Mustangs were classified as muscle cars, no? And by that definition for "pony car", I'd really only say that the 80s model 5.0s really qualified... small, light, and powerful... those and the very early models. When they were competing heavily with the Cambird in it's original state, they got pretty damn big, and the new ones aren't exactly lightweights either.
I was just on the phone with my dad, and as zany as this sounds, he was basically saying that the origin of the term "pony" car was basically that the car was named or featured a car in it's logo. Hell, I dunno, but, he is a pretty big enthusiast, and was around and cognascent for the rise of the Mustang, so, I guess I'll take his word, although by definition a Pinto could qualify.

The last Camaro off the assembly line was auctioned off yesterday, at the Kruse International auction, with proceeds going to R.O.C.K., a Chevy charitable foundation (Reaching Out to Communities and Kids?).
