My friend just picked up an r32... surpisingly the exhaust note sounds magnificent in those things but for some reason seemed to be lacking in power... I dont think that those things are that fast at all ( bone stock ) But they handle like a dream and also look pretty nice too.

You say that jokingly but... anything is possible.

Friend of mine's father is a big VW-nut. Just picked up an R32 as his daily driver. Granted, he hasn't touched that yet, but his project car was an old ('92?) white GTI in which he swapped in a Corrado engine, built it up, and supercharged it at about 12psi, and stripped it down, IIRC. Did it all himself in his regular old garage. I'll need to grab some photos next time I head over there and get some numbers, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was pushing well past 400, and he's had that damn thing for years and years. I believe it put down 10's, and does fairly well at amateur drag events.

Granted, the car is about as much GTI now as an Evolution VIII is a 1992 Mirage, but anything is possible with lots of time and money.
