Nissan Silvia [MERGED]
alright the big major difference between the 240 and the siliva is the engine...240sx come wit the ka24de and some are dohc and some are sohc...the sivlias come with either a ca18de or a sr20de either non turbo or with turbo...an other thing there is the hatch back verison and the non hatch back version...and the 95s and newer models..the 95s and newer are exactly like the s14s cept for the engine of course and a few other things...lhd of course.. but the older 240sx are modeled after the rps13 and the s13 silva and 180sx the hatch back version with the pop up lights is the 180sx same chassis as a silvia juss in a hatch back form with pop up lights the silvia is doesn't have the pop up lights......one of the big things for me being a dirfter is that the jdm models don't have abs that is a good thing all american 240sx come with antilock brakes...and the older 240sx got that anoying automatic shoulder belt crap....also the transmision on the 240sx is different it's more square shaped compared to the silvia tranny that is round...the ka24 is a huge engine which i heard was designed for nissan pick up trucks....the the 24 in ka24 stands for 2400ccs so it is obviously a bigger than a ca18 (1800cc) or sr20 (2000cc)...the ka24 has a lot of torque though...but the ca and sr are smaller and give u more power with out draining your bank acounts...the ca18 is a iron block and the sr20 is alluminum.....i could go on forever......

and how can you say sr20det is similar to the rb26dett, one is a inline 4 single turbo and the other is an inline six twin turbo

The reason you can't use our gas in GDI engines is because of the sulfur content. It has nothing to do with the octain. And guess what not removing all the sulfur makes our gasoline about half the price of the gas in Japan with no performance or effecently penality. But it will clog a GDI injector.
I said the sr20 was simular to the rb26, because they are both DOHC inline engines designed for forced induction. Of corse they have different number of cylinders and displacement. But the style and application of the engines are the same.

Y'all are pretty lucky, cuz where I live, the highest octane I have seen from gas pumps are either 91 or 92 (though I'm pretty sure its 91). And that is the "premium" crap. I've only seen "regular" 87 octane, "plus" 89 octane, and "premium" 91 octane.
Isn't sulfur-less gas race fuel? I mean, obviously with close to 100 (US rating) octane, but, also isn't a major factor the lack of sulfur, which allows for faster injection? Not sure on this, so, as usual, I thought I'd ask.
the US Spec 240sx's came with Nissans KA24 SOHC and KA24DE (DOHC) both motors were built for Nissan trucks but it doesn't mean that they are crap motors i've seen some nicely modified KA's running good times and handle just as good as the SR's.
the Japanese Silvia which has both cosmetic and performance differences sports a SR20DET motor which is Nissan 2.0L DOHC Turbocharged motor and depending which year motor you get the hp ranges from 200-220hp with a boost setting up to 6psi.
the ball bearing turbo's on the Silvia S14 and higher motors candle handle with stock boost and internals up to a nice 13-15psi setting this can give a S14 motor a good 250-260hp
i didnt have time to finish the rest of the post i just wanted to add a little bit of my info...there is a ton more stuff i can post but i have to head out...
i have a RPS13/180sx fastback(89-93 US 240sx hatchback) right now in a friends garage it currently holds a Black Top S14 SR20DET (220hp) upped the boost to 10psi and bunch of goodies from 300zx's and other nissan vehicles...hehe but it rips a new ******* in most cars i come up to. im awaiting a Skyline GTR intercooler and my Apexi DUAL N1's and i will be able to up the boost even more...its currently in the process of getting huge fender flares and a Silvia front end conversion.
the SR20 motor was designed after the same designs as the RB26/25 motors they both have very close similarities in design.

yeah no problem...
another thing to add was the most noticeable resemblence in design is the intake manifolds and intake runners off the RB and SR series and both motors switched from high profile cams to low profile cams at the same year allowing both motors to produce more hp. Nissans goal with the SR is to produce a smaller low budget motor that can perform just as well as the RB series motor.

but the sr20 is aluminum and can't hold as much boost as a rb and wut about a ca18 i think thas as good of an engine i think it's underated everyone over here in the states is talk about gettin a sr20 to put in their car but a ca18 handles juss as good and since it is an iron block it can handle the boost of twin turbos compared to a aluminum block
yeah true i never said that the SR would out power a RB...nissan just wanted a low budget motor that has alot of power potential just like the RB's thats why they incorporated alot of the RB's technology and design into the SR...
and yeah i agree with the CA18...i dont under rate the CA18...wasn't it some guy here in the US got a CA18 and slapped a twin turbo putting down tons of hp? or was that Australia? i'm not sure what its power rating was or the specs but i do remember it was an amazing feat. for that guy to pull it off...anyway yeah i totally agree that the CA18 would be a great motor to have but the performance products from companies mostly focus on the SR's i see a good amount of CA18 products out in japan but just like how honda got popular everyone focused their attention towards the SR's and majority of the products out there is for the SR's...just like how everyone wanted a Type-R motor in their civic hatch or a B-series motor swap of some sort....turbo....nos its all supply and demand...if the people i bought my SR from had a CA18 sitting there for me i would picked it up but all they had were SR's...

true true....i'm thinking bout gettin a ca18 for my 240...but maybe i'll go with a sr because like u said they ain't got that many parts here for them...actually while i was typing all this i went to hksusa and looked it up and they didn't have no parts for a ca18....so i think i just might have to go with a sr20...i heard about a few guys that made their ca18s have twin turbo....all from austraila....
