Test drive... Cadillac CTS-V...
For $52,000...? NO WAY IN HELL...
I will say that at when you first look at it, it's a real looker... those hard lines are very nice to look at, the wheels look tough, and the V emblemed calipers behind the wheels look sweet as well... the headlights are very nice looking, and the HID's look great...
the tailight design is pretty lousy how they extend way up onto the trunk line, and that large V shaped trim on the trunk lid is not only cheap looking, it's pretty silly if you ask me...
The exhaust tips could have been a little larger... they kinda get lost in that big rear bumper...
the interior...? BLEH... this is what $52K gets you...? it was a vast wasteland of black plastic... no wood, no aluminum trim, except the cheesy **** on the steering wheel... the seats were lousy... they offered little lateral support and just had a generally lousy feel to them...
ok, so onto the drive... THIS is 400hp...? i was expecting alot more, but i didn't really beat it up, as there was a lot of traffic and i could not get any open lanes to shoot up the RPM's... maybe i just didn't have enough seat time to get the real feel of it, but i was not impressed at all... after i test drove the Audi, my head told me to buy the car... after the CTS-V, my head told me i had to take a $hit...
So, i may go back and try it again, as the sales guy still thinks i may be interested... he told me to come back and we could take it out again... but for $52,000 if you are considering one, PLEASE look at the S4 before you buy... you owe it to yourself if you are spending that kind of money...

I'd like to hear more too!
Thought for sure the 50/50 would be immediately felt as well as the 400hp - compared to the Audi 58/42; Understeer 344hp; overly optimistic (told to me from a tuner in Europe)
Anyway, you can always expect superior interior and build quality from the Audi

I was really dissapointed when I sat in the CTS-V too. The interior kills it, I loved the idea of the car. It's gorgeous, mean looking, and fast but once you get inside all of that love goes away. I haven't driven one but from your review it doesn't sound like driving is really it's saving grace. Another thing is, it's huge, I'm a tall guy, I figured it would be a good fit. I was wrong, knees right on the dash, why can't companies get that right?
Oh well, it's a sports luxury car without a very luxurious interior. Not really what I'd be in the market for either way but when you start comparing price tags with the other RWD sport sedans, it is undeniably a great value.
Thanks for the review. Keep us posted on your test drives.

Yeah there was a CTS V at the last driving school I went to...and it was having all kinds of oil temperature problems with it. My theory is that the bling bling grill simply doesn't allow enough air in. He was running 380 degrees oil temp when everyone else was fine. Just some info in case you plan on doing anything with the car other than normal driving.
When I test drove the 2004 S4 i just loved it, I loved it more than the evo 8. the S4 is 50% more money however than the evo and it isn't as fast nor does it handle as well but it is the near combination of speed and luxury which the evo lacks. I am seriously thinking about buying the Audi S4. If the Evo MR does not have the major features like active yaw control, the headlights, taillights and climate control i will more likely buy the s4. A few weeks ago, I attended a GM event where we got to drive anything from a SSR to a Chevy Malibu. They had a Caddy CTS-V and although not for driving only for sitting in, it did have a smooth shifter similar to BMW. I obsolutely hate the new styling at Caddy or for that matter all of GM. For 53,000 the S4 is the hands down winner (not to mention all-wheel-drive compared to rear-wheel-drive).
The Speed WC Caddy's rule all. Ron Fellows is driving a 3rd car for the team next weekend at Mosport.
But back to topic....I've driven the S4 and the CTS-V and found the driving experience fairly similar, but for that money, I'd much rather have the more luxurious S4. The Caddy's interior reminded me of a rental car, so for $53k I'd have to pass. Plus the S4 comes in yellow
