teset drove an sti today..

after just wondering for so long about something i should have done before i bought my evo..i just went ahead and test drove an sti today for fun..now before i begin i will tell you from my experience..stop taking everyone elses advice and go test drive both or whichever you haven't driven..word of mouth is good but i definitely got the most out of driving both cars..when thinking about these cars you always have to compare stock because you can heavily mod either car and it will no longer be in comparison...so anyways the stock sti compared with my stock evo..in general i think i would rather drive the sti as my daily driver because of the larger engine but smaller turbo..the lag was almost non-existent in the sti and it went when i touched the gas..you dont get the excitement however from the sti which you get from the evo when you get pulled hardcore back into your seat..the sti was extremely comfortable and a very attractive car (not as attractive exterior as evo but same interior maybe better) when shifting through the 6 speeds, getting into gear needs to be done with precision because the slots for the shifter are very tight but this makes driving more fun i think..going around a corner hard I did squeal the tires which I dont in my evo..but I believe it's because we have better tires on our evo so if you change the sti ones you won't squeal like that..i did not get to really push the handling except for that little drift I did but it seemed to handle much better than all the trash talk about its handling that everyone who owns an evo does...the mitsu dealer and subaru dealer are connected where i bought mine and they offered me a clean trade in on an 04 sti blue with 6 k miles on it..my evo has 8k miles..so i told them thats a huge decision cuz i love my evo..but i kind of like my moonroof and the fact that I broke my evo in myself..they told me I could take the sti overnight so I might just take them up on that offer..i was very impressed with the STI but it is a little different drive..as a racecar I would take my evo anyday..as a combo of daily driver and race car the STI was very impressive..tough decision good luck to all of you choosing..you will be happy with either trust me..STI by far only car that compares with my evo!

Here's a thought!

Why not just keep the Evo and buy a new STI and HAVE BOTH! It's every mans fantasy to have and Evo and an STI in there garage. At least it's mine Then again, I'd like to have big fat garage filled with Japanese supercars! That's if I ever become somehow rich and win the lottery. Anyways, get both!!

haha good plan! just 30 grand short lol..and the modded regular wrx's can be pretty impressive too for the other person that responded..i personally like the spec-c in japan that i saw in a video of some evo's, sti's and wrx's...alllllllll amazing cars..and like you i'd like to have a garage full of jap supercars too (when i'm rich not gonna happen tho) my evo makes me so happy i wonder if i can just marry it

I don't know who said the STI couldn't handle, because it can and very well, it may not handle as good as an EVO but it still can handle, so don't know who told you the STI can't handle? The cars are so similiar it is ridiculous, I'm sure someone who owns an STI can test drive an EVO and say some of the same things you are saying. Stock for stock, these cars are very similiar, but modifying is an entirely different story, and many people who buy these cars have modifying in their mindset and it's too bad that Subaru didn't think about that before they went ahead and put the 2.5L in the STI.

Now, step back a moment here. They are willing to do a straight trade for a car that originally cost a few $K more and has less miles? That should imply that they are either having a hard time getting rid of the STis or that the resale value is poor. Sounds like they're confident they could offload the Evo easily.

As for the comparison: both cars are very similar but I just hate the light blue interior on the Suby (no big deal really) and the car just doesn't feel right. It's hard to explain, but I am just so much more comfortable in the Evo and much more confident.

I dislike the STi's handling as compared to the Evo. The STi gives me less feedback, slower steering response, and less intuitive cornering corrections. At the limit, the Evo RS with the front LSD will get oversteer, and a lot more of it if you're not ready to catch it. The STi understeers a little more than I'd like, but it's definitely driveable.

Overall, the STi feels a lot bigger than it really is, while the Evo feels like a little go-cart. I credit this to the tuning of the Evo suspension.

Power-wise, the STi is without a doubt the more powerful car. The STi drivetrain is pretty good.

But the thing that I disliked the most about the STi was the way the pedal assembly is set up. The pedals are too vertical. I have to give some ankle flexion to work the pedals. I don't like that. I like the Evo pedal set up more. It's slightly tilted at an angle, at which I can leave my ankle at a neutral angle and still be able to work it.

Other than that, I dislike the hood scoop and the wing. I dislike the lackadaisical rear leg room. I dislike the big STi stickers, advertising what I paid.

That's why I got the RS. I'm happy with it. All go. No bull****. No compromise

North America is the only country that is getting the 2.5 STI block. This block is unproven in STI and is said to develop water jacket cracks at about 100k miles when used on other applications.

If we got the 2.0 I would have considered the STI.

The 4G63 is proven and I would rather have 1 head 2 heads mean more parts ect.

All the guys a Vishnu drive EVO'S ?

Bring out A STI SPEC 2.0 na I still like the 4G63 seems easier to work on.

the STI is a great car. Luckily, you purchased a slightly greater car. Stick with your original decision. 20/20 hindsight is a biotch.
