Question looking to buy an Acura RSX...

I'm looking at getting an Acura RSX. I don't know if it'll be the base one, or the type-S.

Since I hate finding out about a car after I get it, I'm just looking for input on what you like or dislike about the car. Any interesting facts that would be good to know? Things along that line....

i've heard that there are issues with the tranny/synchros in the type s. not too specific, sorry...

but other than that, it's a good looking car. handles decently, though i was not impressed with my test drive of it before i bought the evo. let's just say i had more fun in the civic Si on a test drive. the engine's great though. i love all-motor tuning from honda. also, the engine, due to its small size and being NA, won't respond super well to mods. it'll probably respond better than other honda engines (like the s2k engine for instance).

nice interior, comfortable for long trips, good gas mileage, decent room in the back. quality parts are expensive for hondas though, due to the market being flooded with crappy manufacturer's parts. i dislike fwd now though, unless it were in a smaller, lighter car (like a crx, EK, EG...)...

however, i just noticed you're coming from a lancer oz edition. i've driven one pretty hard before, and i'd have to give the edge in fun to the RSX. it feels more solid, the shifter is better positioned and the seats are better. go for it!

The RSX Type-S is a great car... as a former Teg owner I was really interested and contemplated hard on getting it, but then I caught wind of the EVO, and well now I'm waiting for an MR... which is a whole other story.

Type-S strengths:

1. Smooth shifting 6sp... it's truly a great manual. Not as smooth as say an S2K, but damn close. Gearing is well spaced for the power band of the motor. Well matched. And the clutch is great.

2. The K20 is a sweet little reving I4, that pulls all the way to redline. You don't have torque, but hearing those revs come-on is a blast.

3. The ride is great for typical roads... soaks up the bumps, taught suspension for the twisties, and by default because of the car's size it's manueverable. Even with the cost-saving double wishbone rear suspension, the car sticks.

4. The interior is top notch. The materials, the ergonomics, the feel... I really think outside of style, no one makes a better interior. And the seats are good... but not grippy enough for the track.

5. Utility of the hatch.

6. Acura reliability and service... intangible benefits of the car. the dealership has always been great, even when the car was modded.

7. Comtech support at many locations... modding without screwing your warranty.

8. Good resale.

Weakness:

1. FWD... I know, it's probably the best (maybe the Mini?) FWD cars, but even though there's virtually no torque-steer... it's not like a RWD/AWD format.

2. No Type-R/more powerful iteration.

3. Ubiquitous, but thankfully no snob appeal.

And that's it in a nutshell... Now you can get the Spec-A setup, which adds visual distinction and gives you bigger alloys.

It's a great car and you should be able to get a great price for it since a redesign is coming.

I'd also look at the WRX in that price range. Just a thought. I like MITSU, but Subaru makes reliable, fun vehicles too.

Hope this helps,
g

Sorry, but for the price of an RSX, you could ge t a way more potent automobile...but it really depends on what YOU are looking for in a car that should determine whether it is a good fit for you!

It's all good... I think i'll want a coup again after having a 4dr for a few years.

Good luck with the decision and let me know what you get... pics would be great too.

The RSX Type-S is a great car, you won't be disappointed.

Thinking of any mods?

Good luck again,
g

Your getting a new rsx? If your getting the type-s why? with only few more grand you can find a used evo around for the same price.

type-s

1. It got a sleek look that alot like.
2. power is hardly there but after 5k "ofcourse the vtec."
3. its roomy in the front, but the back a lil small unless guy put his seat almost all the way up.
4. I saw 20 hp+ w/just basic bolt ons.

Right now i'm honestly just looking b/c I'm sick of the lancer. Don't get me wrong, it's a great car, just not me. I got it because I needed a car when I got home from Vegas (my brother had totalled mine when I was gone). Now that I have a more money and a way to get around, etc... I want to get a car that I WANT as opposed to a car that I NEEDED.

Right now, the RSX is at the top of the list (350Z was at the top, but salesman pissed me off and I walked out).

If/when I get it, I'll be sure to post and let everyone know, and of course, pictures will be provided!

Yes, it would be a new car. I don't know if I will get the Type-S... and I wouldn't get the Evo, it's not me, and to be honest with you, I really don't like it (let the flaming begin). The power really doesn't matter to me... obviously, it has to have some power (preferably more than the lancer), but it's not essential.... Hopefully that makes sense.

Also, thanks for the input!

It would be awesome if a manufacturer put the Dodge SRT4 engine into a more attractive body and it had RWD or AWD at the price of the SRT4!

I test drove one RSX Type-S, and my butt-dyno only registered about 140-150 horsepower.

It may not be the cat's meow with the performance set, but the RSX is a fun car.

Coming from an Integra, it was more of an evolution rather then a revolution with respect to handling...although the interior and transmission/motor are definitely better, the handling was only better, but not significantly so.

I was really hoping Acura would have borrowed a few tricks from the Prelude... if not the platform fro the RSX. I was hoping it would evolve into RWD or AWD. Maybe the next generation?

Hey myfirstnewcar,

Did you look at the Mini, Celica, RX8, Focus, or Golf/R32?
