Well after a year and a half of my ricey, pocket rocket, high school googling Evo, Im looking at new cars. Somthing a little more tame, yet sporty. I have seen the pictures of the Mercedes slk 350,,,,,,and then went down to see one.

OMG,this thing is hott in person. I sat in a slk 320 last year and it was very tight inside. Im 6-2 250...... So since this thing is all new, I went in and sat in it. It was the most well put together car I have seen inside. The seats are out of this world. I mean they are the one thing I kept thinking of once leaving the dealership. They go all the way to the floor, alot of head and shoulder and leg room.

The hard top is very cool too,,,, and nice trunk space as well. The only thing I dont like about it is I still feel its a chick car. So if any of you havnt seen or sat in one yet,,,, do,, you might be shocked as I was.

268 hp/ 258lb.ft.,,,,and about 3200lbs..... for about $48k
6 speed first in a Merc.,or a 7 speed auto...0-60 in 5.4

Also Im waiting to see the 5.5 AMG with 362hp/372tq.....this will be in the upper $50 range.

For the heck of it I checked out ebay,,,, and some of these high end AMG cars 1-2 years old with a few thousand on them like the CLK are selling for $40 ish...so maybe a used one with some miles on it will suit me better.

Im just done with the mods,,,,,,and I have done several,,,,, and the rice boy racer factor..... This has been in the past month or so,,,, I guess it happens,,,, but I think Im done for sure modding and looking to out perform the next Joe. The whole ," I can take a _______ off the line,or I smoked a ______ the other day",,,,,, god it just dosnt float my boat any more. And I have been in a whole 5-7 races with this car since I have had it.

I want a nice performance STOCK car ,,,,,and this one looks very good.

Also cross shopping the S4,,,C6,,, CTS-V,,,,,maybe an M3

And no I didnt get to drive the SLK,,,,,,,,, they were all sold.

Just a little thought from me for the day.

 

Look at a used Porsche 996. 2000's go for as low as $35k with low miles.

 

M3 is nice I hear bad things bout the CTS-V the S4 isn't a bad car but looks pretty plain

my dream luxury/sports car is the new M5 507hp 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and still has all the BMW luxury very nice car but way out of my price range ... for now..

 

i've been looking at some of the used bimmers too. for a low mileage E46 (2002+) M3, you're still looking at close to $45k. those things hold their value amazingly well. you can get a new 330ci with performance package for about the same money or less....i almost bought one myself.


as an alternative to the SLK, you might wanna consider a used M coupe...very fun cars. tough to find though...

 

Get an M5 - that way you'll not miss the Evo power.

 

I test drove a few M3, decent ride, not hardcore like the EVO. Very smooth in power delivery and turn very sharp...however, with numerous engine failure, I wouldn't want to own one and end up going thru all the hassle to fix it. Although everything would be paid for from BMW, it's just not worth the down time.

One more thing, if you're going to get a used european car, make sure you're covered with warranties. These things are very expensive to fix/maintain. I paid $2.5K for my extended warranty and it worth every single penny for the 2 years that I own my car....

Back on topic, I am not a big fan of Merc...but the new SLK surely look nice with some repectable numbers to back it up. If you like it, go for it...

 

Can I get a chick count on this car by some of you.......

I just totally think this is a chicks car........kinda like a vw bug,,,but not as bad.....

And of course I would have to have the AMG with the 5.5 v-8 in that little beast!!

 

Get a used 330Ci for like $30k and an AA supercharger for another $5-6k and you'll be up there with the M anyway.
