Evo Vs Gti R32
I thought it was a joke at firts, maybe from CBS. I like GTI's alot, especially the 337. The R32 is nice but I think they should have entered the game strong with @3oo hp and not skimping with 240. The stats they got from the Evo are the slowest I've seen, and this from an RS.
The thing that really got me was the comment about whether anybody would use this car for a daily driver, indicaing it was too harsh. Whatever happened to enthusiast journalists? The author(s) define weeniedom.

R32 is distinguished from the stiffly sprung competition by its ride and interior—it will not have your spleen begging for mercy after the first six blocks of driving. The only problem: The Evo will be seven blocks ahead by then.
The only BS here is that they should have compared the R32 to the GSR or MR. Comparing it to the RS was not an even match up in the "civil" department.
There are some days where I would actually enjoy a softer ride, comfy leather seats, and a smooth power band. I haven't gone fast in my EVO for weeks (just haven't been in the mood).
I still love the EVO, but as I get older, going fast becomes less important and comfort becomes more important.
I'll still have my EVO forever though ;-)
Oh, and I guess the performance numbers for the RS were BS too. I usually like Autoweek, but they were a bit "off" on this one.

Evo VS R32
They ran the RS because they couldnt get an MR. I really cant see why everyone gets so bent over this stuff....If your an Evo fan what difference does it make what Autoweek says?
You guys gotta admit the Evo is not for everyone. The general public are good bait to the current marketing schemes of luxury, such as cruise control, leather seat, heated seats, soft ride, etc. The market crams it down everyone's throat that those items "are better." They are technological advances, but we'd like to think them more of gimmicks. The general public far outnumbers the niche market, so as a magazine company, I'd think they'd choose the car more people would be inclined to like. Car magazines get paid for advertising, so it would make sense that they'd choose the car that would make them more money, hence the car that seems to cater to the general public more. Don't take that article too personally. I like that I have a car not everyone has.

I haven't read the article but the decision doesn't surprise me at all coming from them. One thing though, why the hell did they choose the most stripped down version of the Evo to compare with such a plush car!? Especially if they give luxury such a high mark with the sport compacts. I think they had it beaten from the start in their minds and choosing the version with no ABS and no sound deadening just made it easier to rub in. I'm really not that angry about it though, somehow not hearing it come directly from Mr Mandel's voice on tv makes it alot easier to take in. It's crazy, all you have to do is hear him talk and you can imagine him in LA accessorizing with small animals.
