Interested in Starting STi/Evo Club in DE, MD

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to start an STi/Evolution club in the Wilmington, Delaware and Frederick, Maryland area. Anyone interested? Basically just a bunch of people that share the same enthusiasm for STis and Evos alike, to get together and meet every now and then, go on some cruises, and just do some group activities (ex. trips to amusement parks or something)

There just aren't enough of each of us (STis, Evos), so I figure, "BAND TOGETHER, AND START A CLUB FOR BOTH!"

Just a thought....

Frederick is about 2 hours away. I wouldn't expect Frederick guys to drive to Wilmington, or vice-versa, but I live in Frederick, but visit Wilmington quite often.

Normally when I visit my parents (who still live in Wilmington), and we end up staring at eachother all weekend long. I figure by getting some people interested in starting something in Delaware, it'll be a good opportunity to come up here, and at least enjoy my car with a few other enthusiasts.

Why wilmington and Frederick, I'm not quite getting it. They aren't close to each other at all. Is it like 2 branches of the same club?

They're not 2 branches of a club, per se. I just live in the Frederick area, and come up to Delaware on some weekends to visit my parents. I just figured I'd get in contact with some people from the two areas that I'm mostly around. I wouldn't say it's "my club," or even a "club" at all, I guess. Maybe more like just a bunch of people that get together every now and then to enjoy the hobby. I just think it would be cool to know enthusiasts around both locations. Hell, I'm always up for getting together with people and talking cars, no matter where I am!

I point out Frederick in particular, because there are a ton of meets that go on in Rockville, but not everyone from Frederick wants to drive 25-30 miles to Rockville just to meet up with people that share the same interests, and then drive some more. It's pointless to drive 30 miles, just to drive some more, and then drive home.

A lot of the times I drive up to Delaware to visit the folks a few times per month, and they're busy doing other activities during the day for a few hours. Meanwhile, I'm stuck bored. I figure it leaves a few hours to go hang out with some other people, and get in a few meets or drives while there's free time.

I figure the weather is cooling off, and it's real pleasant to be outside. Maybe get a bbq together at a local state park or something, and then go on a drive, or whatever. It's just a great time to be outside and enjoying our cars. Why not enjoy our cars with others?

Wow indeed that is a huge distance gap between locales. However, I completely empathize for your situation. My recommendation would be checking out the Middle Atlantic Auto Performance group (former baltimoreturbo) http://midaap.com. You can also PM me if you seek to meet a number of Subaru owners in Harford County Maryland.

The people don't necessarily have to be STi owners. I'd be perfectly content hanging with 20 Evo owners.

It doesn't matter much to me. I just wanna go out and enjoy my car, and run some back roads or something with some peole that share the same interest. It's much more exhilirating to roam the back roads with a few STis and Evos in front of you, rather than Ma or Pa Kettle in a Buick LeSabre.

Thanks for the tip. I'll check that site!

I'd be down for meeting up sometime. Starting a club is a lot of work though, it'll probably be better just to hang out with a bunch of evo/sti peeps. I've noticed that DE Evo owners arn't very interested in having meets, I've tried. Keep me posted.

Sounds like a plan. I guess that's probably what I was looking to do, moreso than start an actual club.

You're right that nobody seems to want to do meets in Delaware.

I have the same problem near home in Frederick. Everyone wants the "Frederick guys" to drive 30 miles to Rockville, however they never want to make the trek up to Frederick.

I love your idea. Unfortunately I live far from you(Tucson, AZ) but I must admit that the originality is a killer. I admire boths cars and here in Tucson we get along very well, we always drive in mixed groups and we even share and swapp cars.

Good luck with you idea, I hope people will get together for fun and nor for hate..
