Bad luck again, and dumb dealership service dept.

I copied my write up from the Evolution MR boards:

I must have this aurora of bad luck that surrounds me. Last week I took my car into my dealership for the 30k service. I have never had a problem with the dealership till now.

I pull the car up, get out, go in and talk to the service writer. (Everyone at the dealership knows my car) It's not like I am a stranger there or just some ordinary customer. They know how I am about my car, and that I am very particular about who works on it. As the service writer is finishing up the paper work, he looks at me and starts to reassure me with regards to the mechanic that is going to be working on my car. He tells me that I have nothing to worry about, and that the mechanic has been around cars his whole life, and how his father was a racer, and a mechanic...yadda yadda.

Flash-forward now, car is back and everything done. I am out driving a few days ago, and pull up next to a buddy of mine, and I notice a smell. He has an older car so I just assumed that it was coming from his WRX. Didn’t think anything else of this matter, until yesterday. I pull up to my house after work and I notice that same smell that I noticed a few days prior. This time it was a lot stronger smell, so I pop the hood take a looksie don’t see anything, shrug my shoulders and walk into the house. Girlfriend calls about 10 min later. She wants me to meet her at the coffee shop; I get in my car and go meet her. The whole way there, I am smelling this crap, and saying to myself....WTF?!?!?!? I finally get to the coffee shop, by this time I am really starting to get pissed because I know that something is wrong with my car. I pop the hood again, this time really looking hard. Don’t see anything inside the engine bay, so I drop to the ground to see what I see, well guess what......threes a small puddle of some liquid starting to form. It wasn’t pouring out at this time. More like dripping out. I move the car into the next spot, and put my finger into it to see what it is. It smelled like oil, so I really thought that I had a leak out of my oil pan or something. I knew that I had to get it to a shop and take a look at the underside. The dealership is way out of the way compared a local shop that I frequent. I decided to call up the local shop, and I get it on the lift over there. Get to the shop about 20 min later, the whole way there I was watching my oil pressure, and watching the temp gauge and everything to make sure that I was overheating something.

I make it to the shop, get it on the lift and see what I have to look forward to. Guess what I saw...

It wasn’t my oil pan.....or oil.....it was diff fluid. Come to find out, apparently, when the dealership changed my trans and diff fluid, the dumbass mechanic didn’t tighten up the drain plug. It's somewhere along a road here in MD. I don’t know where I lost it, how long I drove with nothing in the transmission. The worst part is that, as I was getting to the shop I started to notice more noise coming from my driveline. It was a high pitch wine, much louder than the normal noise that comes from our diffs. The only thing that came out of the trans while I had it up in the air was a few drops of black stuff.

The car is getting flat-bedded form the shop to the dealership this morning, and I will make sure that I am there for all this. I want a full replacement of everything. New trans, ACD, front Diff, everything. I am so pissed right now. I also want a rental car for the entire time that I am with out my car. Sorry for such a long replay of the events, this is a form of therapy for me. I needed to vent this.

To this day, I check what a mechanic has done to my car. I make sure everything is tighten properly, all fluids are at there proper level, and I find a problem, I do not hesitate to take it back to the stealership.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. At least something disastrous did not happen while you where driving your car. What dealership did this happen at?

Thanks, all. I just spoke with the dealership, and they are getting it towed this morning. The dealership was Fitzgerald Mitsubishi/Mazda in Annapolis. The service was always great till this happened. The sales department is Awsome though. I will be sure to let you all know how it goes with this.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I got the car flat bedded over to the dealer this afternoon, getting it there was a task in of it's self. We had to take the front bumper and the FMIC off just to get it on the truck. grrr

I was able to talk to the director of operations for the dealership, and this is what came out if it. The Tech said that he tightened everything on the car, (which I would expect, he doesn’t want to loose his job). I say that I didn’t touch it, so its how a he said/she said sort of thing. The operations guy said that he is choosing to open an investigation with his insurance underwriting company. So I will get questioned, as well as everyone that I was with during the couple days in question between the time that the car left service till last night when I called the dealer.

I have already contacted my lawyer, and I am waiting for him to call me back. I am going to prepare my legal defense and case, because I don’t want to get screwed in this.

The dealer told me that when the investigation is over, based on the outcome if they are shown to be at fault then they will pay what ever the costs to get the car fixed, and do whatever they can to make this situation right. My only concern is that its now going to be the dealers word against mine. Sad

The dealership has given me a rental car till this situation is resolved.

Stephen: now that I have a rental car I will be able to make it up to AMS, and I have more room in the trunk for the stuff.

Era: I took the car there on Tuesday and talked to them. They told me that the sound was normal for lifters in our motors, and that the sound was within "Mitsubishi limits"?? What ever that means. They said that nothing was wrong and that one was a little noisey. As for the hole inthe map, it has been like that since Al did the flash almost a year ago. I dont see that getting fixed till I get my standalone in the car, and I can mail him my ECU.

Probably not since he didn't pick up his car right away. When they pulled his car out, there would have been a trail of fluid going out the door and a nice puddle when he pulled out of the parking spot (unless he didn't notice). But I could be wrong!!

Yes they are fixing it now. They called me this morning and told me that they were ordering a new TC, and everything in it. I will pick it up after I get back from California. I will be gone till next Tuesday.
