hey guys. i am new to the forums and have been looking for an evo for a month or so. there seems to be tons of info on here about the cars but sifting through it all could take days. where can i find some general info and then some more detailed info about the car? the good and the bad, problems and other thing to look for etc. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Don't get a 2003 Evo. There. That's all you need to know regarding a used Evo purchase.

03 and 04 had alot of transfer case problems. unless the previous owner was ridiculously easy on it then its more than likely gonna happen. in 05 they introduced the ACD (active center differential) feature on the US evos which vary the power from front to rear depending on which setting u have it on (tarmac, gravel or snow) Ull find that the 03s and 04s are alot cheaper so im sure ull want to jump on it but beware, if u do test drive one and its making a very noticable whining noise while ur driving than thats the t-case going up. If at all possible get an 06 since they started the evo IX's and they make crazy power over the 05 VIII's due to the mivec and the camming and the slightly different turbo. good luck on ur search.

Every 2003 Evo 8 has been modded, probably already on it's 2nd or even 3rd owner, who has re-modded it; has synchro issues in the trans, has a small turbo housing (than the 05's). The only way to buy a 2003 Evo is if you can bargain a killer deal for yourself; the best buy right now would be a 2005, some of them are mint, unmodded, very well maintained, clean cars. A used 2003 is a gamble in a way. Yeah, there are some really well maintained, well-running 2003's, but you'd have to find and deal with the seller directly and see some receipts, maint. records and such. If you are going to get a 2003 Evo, have someone inspect it, there are fairly obvious signs of what was previously done to it, what the problems might be and etc.
