transfer case
ok well here this goes, My brother in law and I are trying to get the transfer case out of my car because I believe there is a problem in the differential. Now in his garage we have the jacked up, we pulled the axles, pulled the passenger side shaft out of the tc, also we have pulled the six bolts that hold the tc to the tranny. we have also loosened the suspension cradle so that we have more room to move the tc. Now my question is, does the driver side shaft need to come out to get the tc off. if so how does it come off and what do you use to get it off? because the way that it looks there is no space to get a slide hammer in there. but maybe I am missing something. as of right now with the driver side shaft still in we get about an inch of separation between the tc and the tranny. if someone could give me some helpful hints that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You need to weld a bolt to your slide hammer to get that output shaft on the driver side inorder to get the t-case off of the tranny. go to http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php...3_4&tech_id=27 scroll down to step 14. I have one if you need it but I'm all the way here in b-more...all I did is go to pepboys n get a slide hammer and have midas weld the m8X1.25 bolt.. get the slide hammer with the heavier weight.
good luck

I honestly don't know what happened, on New years eve I accidentally stalled it( not paying attention to what I was doing, then when I got back to the house it and everyonce in awhile it would pop and u could sorta feel the wheel skip or hesitate. so I had to get it back to VA Beach, from gloucester county. which prob didn't help the situation and then left it at my brother in laws house till we were able to work on it. I had taken it to the dealership to have them look at it they did and sid that it was something in the transfer case. well no s*&t sherlock and they gave me a quote to fix it and it would have cost 2800- 5000 dollars. that is when I promptly picked up my car and we just pulled it ourselves. so now I am going to ship it to Shep transmissions and have them do a rebuild. so how it happened exactly I don't know.

That is what happens to those weak 03-04 GSR transfer cases when they break. The other problem with them is ring and pinion wearing out prematurely doe to improper shimming(causing the severe whine)

I can't wait, my car will hopefully be back on the road by next weekend. just got the call that my transfer case was done and will be on the way back to me tomorrow. while I have been waiting for that I have gotten some other stuff done. painted the headlights, painted the intercooler, painted the front mitsu emblem, took all the badging of the trunk and put on just the UK, putting on trubo manifold, and turbo outlet, project mu brake pads, steel braided brake lines, and motul brake fluid. might have some other stuff too by the time we're done. but that is it so far.
