Hey all,

New Evolution X owner here in NOVA. Purchased a 2011 Evo GSR with 70k miles. I am a complete n00b when it comes to this car and would really appreciate some help. Currently the car only has the K&N typhoon air intake kit (came with it) on what i believe is the stock tune. I've been having some minor issues which points in the direction of the catalytic converter (code p0420). Any suggestions on what is the best way to tune and replace my cat? I'm currently exploring options and considering going to Moore Automotive to have a professional/specialist look at it.

I will say, when I flashed the codes it drove beautifully but now after ~50 miles the code came back. Any suggestions are appreciated. Looking forward to loving this car even more

Hello fellow Evo owner and welcome to the community. Although I am not a mechanic but know just enough to diagnose a few things then take it to a mechanic as my last resort, I would first check if there is anything different about the way it drives. Has it got dyno tuned after the intake was installed? Definitely do some research in this forum because there are alot of useful info here, it might save you a trip to the mechanic. I would recommend doing some research in here and see what you find. If the car is not driving funny don't worry too much but definitely check around the vehicle. It is possible that there could be a bad sensor but don't take my word for it until have run a few checks. During the 10 years I've had my evo, i've read people have just replace the sensor, even someone tried pulling out and cleaning it but I never heard if that fixed it. If you think you do not have the time but have the money, Moore Automotive is your best bet. I take my car there when anything I can't figure out comes up and they've helped me several times. Best of luck!

And remember do not feel disencouraged when you enter these forums. There are good people in between it all. I learned alot from this forum with my bolt-on installs but still leave the dyno tunes to the pros lol. Good luck!

Considering new turbo set ups on my Evo and wondering whether an external wastegate dump might be an issue when inspection time comes here in NoVA. Anyone have any experience with that?

I would call up Moore Automotive and see what they say as I know they have had to deal with this before.

Oh ok I didn't know this even existed. Very cool. Yeah I usually try to avoid the car scene crowds as it usually ends up in nothing good if someone acts up. I'm pretty low-key as a lot of the older DSM folks like myself have moved onto other platforms or hobbies outside of cars so I usually keep to myself most of the time.
