Angry Got busted by the Popo!

I was heading northbound on I-355/290 and off the Biesterfield exit i saw a black Mustang GT. All limo tinted up accept for the front driver and passenger side. Normal plates, and slightly lowered and heading for me very fast. I was @60MPH and in the middle lane and he switched over 2 lanes to tailgate me. I could see the driver clearly in my rearview mirror, looked like a young punk kid even no hat. I moved over to the slow lane and he immediately accelerated to my side and backed off. He did this twice..and the second time (like a dumb fish, i took the bait) i hit it! Looking at my speedo 60,65,75,80 then good enough, blinking cheeries behind me. There goes my perfect driving record..i was pissed!! Damn "Wolfpack", i've seen the cameros and the other mustangs with the racing stripes but never these plain black ones..

Now is this legal being provoked by a freaking cop..

Sounds like entrapment.

If you moved over to get out of the way and he deliberately tailed you and kept egging you on, twice no less, then that seems like it's not legal. Not only that, but if you were doing the legal limit and he sped up to catch and trap you, that can't be right... I'm sure someone will correct me, though.

Entrapment is deliberate and continuous enforcement of a cop encouraging you to commit a crime or particular act. You are supposed to be smart enough to get yourself out of those types of situations. I know it sucks bro, but cops can do that, now if he met you at a local hangout and encouraged you to streetrace over and over against him or whoever, then that is not legal. You bit his bait, so it seems, he can do whatever he wants to engage you in commiting a crime, unfortunately. Sorry man.

So that doesn't fit this case?

That does not sound right. It might be legal, but it's not RIGHT. Get a lawyer and he should at least be able to reduce the penalties. Maybe even get it thrown out. Ticket clinic!!!

that sucks... cops in the burbs will always try to get you on anything. and if they can't find something to pull you over on. they will try to push you into doing something wrong.... how is that enforcing the law???

Technically, no, he sped up next to him twice. That doesn't mean he told the kid to race or even necessarily mean that he even wanted to. It's more of a technicality issue then an actual scenario. Cops can get away with technicalities. Whereas, we look at the situation as if the cop sped up and paced the evo to engage a race(which is how we see it). The evo driver could have handled the situation better and ignored rather then gun it to show up the Stang. It's just how it is though, sucks royally.

I find that kinda hard to believe but *shrug* who knows? Because most police units actually have specific drivers go out and are deliberately told to catch street racers. Am I talking about the same thing as you guys, cops in unmarked police vehicles and attempting to street race people? If that's what we are talking about that is 100% legal. It's called proactive policing. Same thing as an undercover officer sitting in a a park disguised as an old lady with a purse, and tries to get someone to steal their purse. by having a lot of money shown or valuables in plain view. All the same thing just different situations. As long as the cop doesnt "tell" you to streetrace him or demand it, he can bust you. He can even ask to streetrace you, if you accept = you get ticket. I like criminal justice in my college, you learn a lot about these kinds of things, we have arguments in class all the time about things like this. Makes everything fun. But anyway, the system is built to catch the fools =/ or the willing lol.

If your record is really clean, then I wouldn't worry much. Is the speed limit 65 through there? If so, that's only 15 over. The reckless driving speed is really high for IL (like 35-40 over, i think). He only got you for speeding, correct?

You can get through your first offense with minimal consequences. Pay the fine and take the driving school option. You can do the driving school online through northwestern and it only takes about 90 minutes. - A little secret, you don't actually have to pay attention during the online driving school. Just wait for the lessons to end and take the super easy tests .

I think you can do driving school once per year and keep your record completely clean: no points, no insurance hikes.

EDIT: Does anyone else think it's totally rediculous that the Illinois police can take your drivers license for a speeding first offense? I've gotten pulled over for doing 40 in a 35 and had my license taken. Imagine how bad that would be if I were trying to catch a plane.

What would of happened if the cop lost control while trying to get you to race?
