Well you have to put 4 holes in your floor for starters. You really should box out the area you are going to drill for the holes as well. Then you have to brace each jack, run your air lines, and find a good spot for the recever.

Is that the roof skin you took off originally, or did you have to get a new roof skin? I ask because I want to turn my Evo into a time-trial car, and part of installing a cage will be either replacing the roof skin, or shaving the sunroof hole. Trying to figure which is easiest/cheapest.

Its a new skin. Figure by the time you add in all the body shop charges to patch up the sunroof hole its about the same money. If you pull the roof off yourself which isn't that hard you can save a ton of cash and have a more rigid addition.

Should I paint the roof black or keep it red? I like the way the black makes it stand out....but I don't know. What do you all think?

Thanks for the info. About what will a new roof skin cost, and is it something that takes years to get in? I'm hoping that I can start on my car this winter, and have a cage by next spring. I'll have someone else put in the cage, but I'll gut the interior myself. If you have any tips from hard-won experience, I'd appreciate anything you can tell me.

Personally, I'd paint the roof red, it would look so much more finished then. Plus it's so "Supra" to have one panel painted black. Have you thought about a roof vent? Give your car that total rally look.
