How do they hold up in 1-2 inches of snow in the northeast?

I used the Continental ContiExtremeContact on my Evo.

I even bought them again last month for my STi.

Avon M550, good all around tire. They are smooth and quiet on the highway with good wet and snow traction. Only 3000 miles on them, but looks like they will wear pretty good.

Well after the first real snow of the year I have to say my Goodyear Eagle RSA handled pretty damn good.

Anyone had experience running 18" rims with all-seasons during the midwest winters? It is an option; or just not enough tread to do this?

It's an option... You don't lose any tread depth going to 18's, just lose sidewall height on properly sized 18's I haven't done it though.

I had these on my 03 and they were great in the snow. They also lasted good. I put them on at 12,000 miles and they still had about 30% tread left when I sold the car at 42,000 miles. My only complaint with them is the road contact portion of the tread is a little narrower than the stock Yokos.

Kuhmo Ecsta ASX. These perform extremely well in the snow. The great part is that you don't sacrafice much performance for a winter tire. I can still tear it up with these rubbers on. They're a great ultra-high performance all-season tire...and you can't beat the price for the performance. The wear has been excellent, too. Check them out.

I had the Conti Extremes on my WRX and was very happy with them during the occasional snow the car saw. As a bonus, I think there were good for almost 50k miles.

Yeah, all descent options.

Sounds like running 18's with all-seasons in the winter is a viable option. I didn't know if it was a stupid idea or not.

I'm used rim shopping (again); for 17's or 18's.

I just bought a set of the Falken ZE-512 for the winter, I have a few friends that had them on last winter and they did really good. I raced the last auto-x with them and did better than I thought they would, plus you can't beat the price!
