Carz Custom? Anyone used them?

Looking to have some tuning and intercooler piping done, wanted to see if anyone has had good or bad experiences. Ive dealt with a few other Denver shops and been less than happy....

TIA!

I fully support them. I had my tuning completed by them. Clean shop, good guys to work with. All parts were installed by friend a mechanic with a little of my help. Excellent work with AEM.

What type of system are you going to run?

You should hit us up this weekend at Bandimier Speedway. I will be with the crew from Carz and will be racing this weekend. Feel free to give me a ring 303-921-7370

As far as your intercooler piping, the Helix has worked well for me. Check with Gruppe-S, I believe they were running a special on the kit. Easy install by yourself to save money, then just pay for the tune. I would give Don a call over there to make sure they can work with your program. 720-214-5095. Good luck.

As far as intercooler piping, I have helix too, but if I could afford it I would have done the XS Engineering without a doubt. You have to run a smaller battery, but they are very nice pipes (shiney) and very big I think it is a full 3". Great welding and worth every penny.

As far as shops. I think all shops are the same. I have bad experiences with all shops. I don't know much about Carz custom other than what I have heard from lancealot. they seem to treat him very well. I have met Lucas the shop owner and he is very nice. Very informative. I didn't mesh so well with their tuner. Difference of opinions.

I usually go to MAC. Nick is an excellent tuner and a very nice guy. I deal with Nick a lot.

What other shops have you gone too?

Ive been to a few others which I dont want to name.

I like Nick, but I spent over 2k on standalone, and I really want it properly tuned on a load dyno, not on an inertia, esp. since its daily driven. Their tuner seemed a bit cocky, but everyone says Lucas is nice, didnt meet him.

That makes sense. I don't blame you. I know nick tunes AEM's but I have not seen how often he tunes them. Apparently Don from Carz tunes the AEM's pretty well. As lancelot has put it. Don is very abrasive. He is good at what he does, but is not the most customer oriented type person. You have to live with the fact that he knows what he is doing and a little rough around the edges.

THat's why I don't tune at Carz. I don't want an AEM and they seem kind of against the SAFC. But there is no doubt that they can tune an AEM. Just ask lancealot.

But I agree with you. 2k on a standalone, I would want the best tuner for it as well.

good luck.

The thing is, with a load dyno, you can hold each load point, whereas with the inertia dyno you just do a pull and try to correct the curve. Esp. with part throttle tuning, you want a load dyno.

I dont mind if the tuner is not the friendliest person on earth, as long as he does a good job and doesnt rip me off. Thats all I am looking for. I dont need a new best friend or anything

I feel you will be in good hands at Carz. I talked to Don and he can tune your Autronic. Their dyno is very nice. I had a backfire problem that could not be detected on a normal dyno. We put a load on my car and bling, found my problem. I highly recommend a tune with a loaded dyno if you have money to spend. As smokey said, Don is a lil ruff sometimes. Give him his time, let him do his job, but dont hesitate to step in and get explanations. He will stand by his work.

Agreed. Very well put. but I also don't want a tuner who is going to tell me what I have is crap. And that they will tune it anyways, but they think it is worthless to do.

Will you post your numbers when you get it tuned?

I would be interested to see.

I tuned my car at Carz, I just have a SAFC-II right now but they are a good shop to go to. Don is a very good tuner and they are cool people. As far as IC piping goes, I got mine custom done at Street Concepts, it looks very clean.

I can definately vouch for Lucas @ Carz. Only had my car baselined there, but the shop looks good and they know what they are talking about.
