Off Topic: Question for Chicago, IL Area Owners

I start my last semester of school soon and My professors have told me that I should start job hunting. Well I'm looking to move to the Chicago area and was looking for a little insight...Good areas/bad areas to live.

I was kind of looking in the Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Elk Groove area.

What's your criteria for "good/bad?" I live in Wheaton and know the surrounding area pretty well. Let me know. If you post and i don't answer for a while just pm me.

wheaton is nice so is naperville. Plainfield/shorewood is going up like crazy right now, it's just a little too south for some. Batavia is going up quickly.

Leaving the Evo outside for night and waking up to find out its been keyed, broken into, stolen - would be an example of bad...good would be decent housing for a decent price and not worrying about waking up to a missing car

I'm having problems find somewhat cheaper housing with a garage, so I'm worried I may have to park outside for a little while until I get settled in and ready to move to bigger and better things.

It all depends where your working at too.. the drive to the city gets annoying sometimes.. but if you live in naperville/planfield area just take the train.. Shorewood and naperville are going crazy right now.. Shaumburg has too many rules and the cops suck.. Elk grove is ok.. but it has its bad parts too.. Im moving so I can help ya find something PM me..

Arlington Heights/Prospect Heights area is good. I used to park my evo outside....and then somebody broke into it (I think because Wheeling is so close). Oh well.

Check out Northbrook + Evanston too.

are you looking to buy or rent? Northbrook IS nice, but median price of home: $621K. Last I checked. And yes, work consideration is very important. Do you not want to be anywhere near downtown?

are you looking to buy or rent...if you want to rent st. charles/geneva is pretty safe but not the cheapest. We have a house in bartlett and it is totally safe, I've accedentally left my evo outside with the doors unlocked and no issues. Schaumburg is good with more stuff around and isn't too expensive to rent. You don't live that far awaym, why don't you just come down for a weekend and check out a bunch of places. You could just live in the city but it is expensive and I wouldn't leave my car out

Yeah I'm planning on coming down there in the spring. I was just looking online to get an idea of things. I figure it might be better to have some ideas in mind so I'm not just aimlessly wondering around.

why don't you look online for area in your price range that look good to you and throw out those areas and us chicago people can give you a better idea of the area. It's all pretty subjective but you'll get an idea...just a thought

if you are looking to live in the city, look up the apartmentpeople...they will help you find a place and drive you around so you don't have to find the places yourself.
