I got quoted $40-$50 a wheel for prep and powder-coating my newly attained MR wheels, does this sound reasonable?

No. Normally about $30-$40 a wheel.

I think thats too cheap. I'd rather have them remove the entire finish on the wheel, clean it with solvent, pre bake it, coat and then final bake. That entire process is worth way more than $40 IMHO. Don't skimp. Also make sure this company knows that they are dealing with forged magnesium...

Whats that?......Thats the sound of my ***** across your face!

But really. I hope they are a really reputable business. Have to heat the wheels very slowly and gradually. Don't want to thermally shock them and create little cracks or fissures.

It's the same place Lingenfelter uses so I'm assuming it's decent.

Are we talking about OEM Evo MR BBS wheels? They don't make OEM magnesium wheels as they are 1) a soft alloy not suitable for daily driving on potholes etc that 2) would add like $10k+ to the price of an Evo. Real magnesium wheels are something you will find only on the most exotic hypercars (Zonda!) or heavily sponsored race cars. The OEM BBS wheels are forged aluminum alloy.

The OEM valvecover on the 4G63 Evos is cast magnesium... As far as I know thats the only big use of magnesium on the Evo.

Actually, the 8's and 7's valvecovers are magnesium as well. Mine's an 8, a 2003 at that, and my valve cover (which i just got coated its badass!) is Magnesium, hell it has a (Mg) cast into the top right corner...
