you can paint the rear window and rear sides with black paint if you wanted...

no tint on front row side or windshield.

$75 ticket, no grace period

::knows what he's talking about, unfortunately::

You could get a doctor's note, but I don't think it is worth the hassle. My friend was in court like 3 times a month in his old car for tints and exhaust.

I agree with the back window - painted is legal. The back sides you can go as dark as you want.
As for the front sides, go no more than 35-50% (higher is lighter). I know several people that do a half/half thing where only half the window is tinted. I think that looks pretty gay.
As for the front, you can have a 6-inch strip if you want. I've pushed this to 8 inches pretty often w/o a problem.

Check out my car, I have pics of it posted. I did the rear and back windows with 5% (Limo tint). The front sides have nothing.

Does anyone know an optometrist that would write a note for tints for me? Perhaps there's one on this forum in Chicago. The car looks so good with them and i don't want to take them off and just got my first warning for them! Any help would be appreciated!

There has to be an optometrist that owns an evo that would be willing to help a fellow enthusiast out...

HAHA, thanks for the advice but I'm in Chicago...the winters get kind of cold here. I actually bought the car with them on and I bought it b/c of how good it looked with them on, so I'd prefer not to take them off and driving with the windows down isn't always an option here....

The doctors note does work in IL! When I was pulled over and got my warning the officer asked me if I had any conditions that required the tints or if I had a note from a doctor to support any reason...so they do accept it. I was just wondering if there was a doctor on here that could help a fellow enthusiast out. I got the idea from an M5 forum, b/c some doctor in Cali was writing notes for people who were in the area

Doctors notes do work but the note would only be valid for 1 year. So ur optometrist would have to renew ur note yearly
