and if that doesnt work, I took pictures of my car with no front tints in the fall, winter, and soon to be spring. So all I have to do is bring those pictures to court depending on what season it isand get my ticket thrown out.

Anyone think this will work. Or should I just scrap the idea and retint it all 35%
They'll throw the ticket out but if I were you I'd just get it all redone.

But I really hate the 35% look. I think Ill go the illegal route till I get rolled a few times, then change it. Maybe just during the summer cause i can keep my windows down. Then change it before it gets cold.

got a question, not directly related but it was mentioned here.

so if you are driving with front windows halfway down, pass by a cop, roll the front windows completely down, get pulled over, he comes and tells you to roll the windows back up so he can see the tint.

can you refuse to do that or no?

logic, I heard that the tint law is gonna change to no more than 50%

http://www.illinoistrack.us/legislation/GA97HB1492

Any truth to this? I'm just cross posting what I saw on my buddy's FB page.

IllinoisTrack.us is kind of annoying; they present a stripped-down interface that gives you only a hint of the information that's actually available (and they're actually out-of-date right now). I saw this bill a few days ago while I was running a few searches on the ILGA website::

http://ilga.gov/legislation/billstat...6&SessionID=84

If you look at the full text of this bill, it's purely a cost-reduction measure (click on "full text", and look for the underlined (new) or striked-out (removed) portions). Right now, if you have an exemption from the window tinting law for a medical condition, they issue you a custom plate. This bill changes that; if it passes, they'll only issue special stickers instead.

Overall, it looks like a good thing to me; lower cost to the state, and if you're one of the few folks who have an exemption, you should be able to get your own (normal) custom plate if you want (ie. if you want the Rt66 plate or something).

Even so, it looks like it was referred back to the rules committee, which suggests to me that it's probably a dead bill; with only the primary sponsor behind it, it's probably not going anywhere.

----

If you ever has a question about Illinois' vehicle code, you want section 625 of the compiled Illinois statutes:

http://ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs2.asp?ChapterID=49

Specifically, the Illinois Vehicle Code, which covers everything from equipment requirements to registration and licensing:

http://ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilc...5&ChapterID=49

The specific section that covers window tint is article V:

http://ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilc...qEnd=130800000

As of right now, the law is still reads exactly as it passed last year, and a quick search didn't show any pending legislation that would change that (aside from the one you mentioned):

(1) On vehicles where none of the windows to the rear of the driver's seat are treated in a manner that allows less than 30% light transmittance, a nonreflective tinted film that allows at least 50% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by any law enforcement official metering the light transmittance, may be used on the vehicle windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.
(2) On vehicles where none of the windows to the rear of the driver's seat are treated in a manner that allows less than 35% light transmittance, a nonreflective tinted film that allows at least 35% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by any law enforcement official metering the light transmittance, may be used on the vehicle windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.
(3) (Blank).
(4) On vehicles where a nonreflective smoked or tinted glass that was originally installed by the manufacturer on the windows to the rear of the driver's seat, a nonreflective tint that allows at least 50% light transmittance, with a 5% variance observed by a law enforcement official metering the light transmittance, may be used on the vehicle windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.
So, either 50% front/30% rear or 35f/35r for most cars, or 50% in the front for vehicles with any factory-applied tint in the rear (the "SUV/Pickup" exception).
