And they just posted an update; discussion for the bill has been pushed out to the 24th. So, we'll hopefully know more next week.

Yeah so a story for you all. It's very long but bear with me and share my frustration please.

If some of you read my post in the tint law thread, you'll know i recently moved from the villa park/elmhurst area to forest park/oak park. I work from home on fridays and decided to get my haircut and run to the bank during my lunch. My barber is in Hillside (around butterfield and wolf) and the closest US Bank is in Elmhurst on S. York st. So i get my haircut then head to the bank. As i head north on york from butterfield rd, an elmhurst cop is heading south. I thought nothing of it and made it to the intersection of my bank and made the left turn on to the street with the entrance to the bank. I pull into the drive thru lane with the atm and I'm minding my own business and all of sudden i see an elmhurst cop car pull up and stop in front of my drive thru lane and made sure to make eye contact with me then he pulls away. I'm thinking, this guy stalked me from Butterfield and York about my tints, so I pull out my printed full text of the law with the 35% clause highlighted out, plus the license and registation, etc. I finish up at the ATM and pull out of the lane, and ofcourse he's in the bank parking lot waiting for me. Rolled on me HARD!

So he walks around my car first then has me roll my window down. He tells me he noticed i have no front plate and my headlights housing are tinted, and I have front tints. I tell him the Lamin-X smoked film on my headlights does not adversely affect my headlights in anyway because they're HID's and function perfectly fine. He threw that out because it wasnt night so he couldnt verify that. As for the tints, i told him about the law, and he stated he was aware of the law, but left his metering tool at the station so he couldnt verify that either (although he did try to argue with me about what was and wasnt legal and didnt want to look at the printed out full text i had).

So, since I'm posting in this thread, you can probably guess that the front plate was the gotcha. He gave me a long speech about how no matter how sporty or aggressive or clean your car looks, whether or not the manufacture or dealership provides a bracket or not, the law is the law and he's there to enforce it, not interpret it. He agreed it was a stupid, pointless law but his job was to enforce. After all that, he gave me a warning to put it on today, and either verify with Elmhurst PD or go to Forest Park PD and and have them mail the "proof" or form or whatever to them.

So I mentioned that there's is a proposed law to end the front plate requirement and he said that he was aware of that and expected it to be dead within the month. He also said that the way the tint law passed was "very political" and he expected that to be rescinded shortly. Then he commented on how nice and aggressive my car looked and apologized for the stupid law once more, handed me my warning, shook my hand and walked away. So he was cool and understanding, just doing his job but he stalked me to get his job done

So I can NOT wait for this friggin law to pass!!!!!!

I highly doubt that this law is going to pass, and I fully expect that with all the attention surrounding it that plate-less people will be more heavily targeted, it is the law so don't be surprised to get stopped for it.

Trust me I'm not surprised by the Elmhurst cop, but the fact that they don't even like enforcing stupid laws and admitting it to the person they pull over says something...

I didn't think the tinting law would pass either, but here we are. So, I'm hopeful.

But that said, I agree: if you're missing a front plate right now, may I suggest zip-ties and duct tape? This hasn't even made it out of committee yet, so we're literally months away from any kind of legislative decision one way or the other. Having no plate right now makes you an easy PC stop and ticket.

i didnt think the tint law would go through either. the biggest thing this plate law has going for it is all of the money the state would make not having to issue front plates. i can honestly see it passing, but there is a big chance it wont.

i dont have any holes in my bumper for a plate, but when i picked up my car the dealer tossed in a new plate mount. the one that mounts it to the side. i am waiting to hear if this law will pass then go from there on deciding to drill holes for it.

ive been pulled over for tints (after the law passed) and they noticed i didnt have a front plate. i had the plate mount in my back seat (still in the mitsu packaging) and said something like "ya i know i just got this from the dealer because my car didnt have a mount for it when i bought it". he just said alright well put that on as soon as you can and he let me go. so that thing wont ever leave my back seat until i hear if this law passes.
