Interesting...

I wonder this is the person selling my radar

http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ele/1874416913.html

I'll know if its mine when I see it because of a certain mark made on it in a certain area.

Since the ECU plugs were disconnected. I remember a few years ago some theives were using a AEM EMS to get the car to start and drive. The AEM doesn't use the immobilizer.

Chi-town is running out of Evos, hopefully they move to a differant type of car so they don't head north.

Glad to hear you got your car back in (mostly) one piece!

Here's your first indication of what happened. They probably just plugged in another ECU so the car would start when they rewired the ignition.

It doesn't look stolen that way; instead, it looks like the owner tried to fix some damage himself. How many cars do you see driving around with a broken window and plastic sheeting taped up over it? Ever ask yourself if they were stolen?

You don't even need to do that. See above: if your ECU was left unplugged, someone just plugged another ECU in in it's place: one that ignored the immobilizer. That could be an AEM, another stock ECU with the immobilizer disabled, or any number of other options. They won't care if it throws a code; hell, they won't care if it barely runs, it just needs to get them far enough away that they can work on it without time constraints.

It's really disgusting to think about how easy these cars are to steal, if you know enough about them. It won't save you from a tow, but my suggestion is to find a few creative ways to make your car unstartable (or at least undrivable) with a stock ECU; a few small code and wiring changes can make a big difference.

No, I'm not going to discuss specifics. Use your imagination.

I'm personally fond of wiring your car alarm up with an air horn.

Where did they find the car? AEM EMS will "edit so bad guys don't read this" and they're gone once steering lock is broken. I'd bet it's these same guys. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/7916664-post113.html
