Anybody ever fought a ticket and won?

last night on my way home i got pulled over and given two tickets. one for speeding 80 in a 55 and one for failure to signal a lane change. if you add those two with the one i got over the summer that makes 3 in 12 months. and in the state of illinois that means a lisence suspension.

the ticket was marked to say the cop got my speed by "PL CAR". which i think means he was pacing me. considering everyone else on the highway was doing 75 this is kinda bs to me. yeah i was speeding but so was everyone else. and i made that lane change without a signal cause i got cut off and was trying to go around the car. whats worse is that this was in my neon cause i put my evo away for the winter.

Anybody every fight a ticket? should i get a lawyer? i would like to keep these off my record. any advice??????

Thanks guy

Hesh, my cousin got into a mess somewhat similar to yours. He had pre-paid legal and the lawyer fixed everything for him. It's better to have representation in court.

It won't work. If the cop did take your speed by pacing you then it can be argued that it is a more accurate... if he got you with a radar gun as well then you are screwed. It doesn't matter if everyone else was doing the same speed, if you were speeding then you're at fault. The "wolf pack" argument never works. If you get a Lawyer he might know something I don't. But isn't 80 in a 55 reckless as well???

Sounds to me like you might be riding the cheese wagon from now on. I hope for the best for you...

Good luck man...

Good Luck - But I think You're Screwed. Something as blatant as 80 in a 55 is pretty tough to argue. Regardless of if everyone else was doing 75. Means that you were still moving faster than traffic. Failure to signal - was that going from the left to the right, or when pulling over? I've seen that out here before...

I don't know how much it differs in the midwest from out here on the east coast usually if you actually go to court and argue at all the judge usually drops the charge, but still collects the ticket money... maybe it will work there too...

I fought my one speeding ticket. I showed up in court, didn't even speak to a judge, just signed a form promising I wouldn't speed for a year, and they didn't put the violation on my record.

if the cop doesn't show, there's no case, you just walk.

I've went to court even when he did show. I pleaded guilty, the judge told me to pay the fine and it DID NOT go on the record.

So they're not all handled the same way.

Best advice: get a lawyer, go to court. See how it goes.

good luck
